Recoil spring length
Anyone know the length of the recoil spring for a S&W model 39-2?
I purchased new springs for my 39-2's, the new ones were noted as "factory original." However they are about an 1/2 inch longer then the spring currently in the gun. The gauge appears to be the same.

Recoil springs shorten with use. I would expect the new springs to be longer.

The original OEM part number is 06048. The OEM spring is approx 5.25" long. with a wire diameter of .042".
It is normal for a new recoil spring to be approx. .50" longer than one at the end of it's life. (when comparing identical part #s) The older spring will take a set over time and end up being shorter.

If the old spring is 1/2 inch shorter than the new spring, then I'd say the old spring is worn out. I just checked the new springs I have and the ones for the 39/59 series pistols is 5-1/4 inches long.
