Here is a fast and safe way to remove carbon stains/rings from the face of your stainless steel cylinder face:

...put some Iosso Bore cleaner paste on a q-tip and apply on the rings. Use a blue hard nylon brush to rub off. The rings are removed quickly and easily, and you don’t have to use a bronze brush. Clean off excess cleaner from the face with cloth patches (and inside chambers since some excess cleaner will sneak in) with some Hoppes 9 and you’re good to go.

(Note: I just use Hoppes 9 and the nylon brush on blued cylinder faces...just faint rings remain. I don’t want to risk taking off any bluing with a stronger cleanser as Iosso).

Thanks for the tip but what exactly is a "Blue" hard nylon brush? Thanks

Blue nylon brush, harder than regular white nylon - see pic

Here's another method. Get a small can of Brasso brass polish. Put a small amount on a soft cloth, gently rub the blackened area of the cylinder. The black will come off easily, and you'll have a lifetime supply of Brasso left over.
