S&W Model 4506
I lost the recoil spring for my Model 4506/
I ordered a replacement from Midway/
The order arrived this P.M. which contained two springs (#193020000).
One spring is approx. two inches longer than the other one.
Which spring is for the Model 4506 ?

Typically new recoil springs ship with a new firing pin spring. Is one spring significantly smaller diameter than the other?

The long, heavy spring is for full power ammo.
The short, light spring is for low power bulls eye work.

What he said.
Do NOT ever shoot ball or defensive HP loads with the short spring. Several officers I know cracked their frames using the light spring to help "break in" their guns.

Is a standard S&W OME mainspring acceptable for factory 230 grain FMJ ammo or should I use the longer mainspring ( which is difficult to install) ?

Long recoil spring is for full power loads, short spring is a lighter weight and for reduced power target loads only. Do not use the short spring if shooting full power ammo.
