4506-1 Recoil Springs
Hi Guys,
Just picked up a LNIB 4506-1. In the box was a second recoil spring in and un-opened bag. I have purchased many S&W autos new in my time, and don't recall ever getting an extra spring. Did any guns come from the factory packed that way?
thanks,
fuzzy

I got a 4516 like that. Came with a new recoil spring, and two sets of grips, Hogue and plastic.

IIRC, 4506-1 pistols came with a "factory standard" power recoil spring and a reduced power recoil spring for wad-cutter loads. The one in the sealed bag is probably the reduced power spring, but you should check to make sure. Good luck.

The 4506 had two recoil springs available, I believe a lot of them had both included.
193020000 RECOIL SPRING SET (20071 &20161)
200710000 RECOIL SPRING - WADCUTTER
201610000 $1.45 X RECOIL SPRING - STANDARD

You can tell which is which by the length of the spring. The wadcutter (reduced power) spring is about 6 inches in length, and the regular power is 7-8 inches long, depending on how used it is.

Thanks guys. That really helps. I have not compared the spring length but I will. Thanks also for the part numbers. I will add that data to my library.

Oh yeah, one more thing. This gun is a lot sloppier than my 645. Hope it still shoots well.

Badman,
Wow, that's a great piece of info. My gun cam with original paperwork but I did not see that one. I will print your message and put it in the file. Thanks again for the tips.

Check under the foam in the box. I think I found mine hidden there.
