Default Info on MMC Power Checkering Tool

I know at least a few of you have these. I recently picked up a vintage MMC power checkering tool and have a few questions. This came from a retired 92 year old gunsmith and he apparently has not used it in over 20 years. It seems to run fine, but the cutter is definitely on the dull side. My concern is with the packing grease in this thing. The manual with it states that after years of use the grease will become hard and ineffective and they specifically state not to attempt disassembly of the tool. I am not opposed to opening it, but just curious if anyone here has already done that.My next question is where does one find replacement cutters for it, or who sharpens the existing ones.

It is possible MMC is still in operation as I did find a website, but everything is out of stock. I will try getting in contact with them. Has anyone here worked with them recently? I am kind of nervous sending a tool I have several hundred invested in out to a company I have no references for.

Any info would be most appreciated.

Yes, MMC is still in business. Sights Inc. Miniature Machine Company – Miniature Machine Company

Give them a shout. Good people there in Burleson, TX.

You bought the tool so apparently believe in it, therefore you believe in the company that made it. What other option is there? Reach out to them, I'd be surprised if you don't find them helpful about their product.

I called them this morning and left a message. My only concern is that I have not been able to get any response by emails that I have previously sent. The tool I bought was probably made in the 1980's and MMC has apparently changed hands several times since than, just don't have any experience with the current owners and was hoping someone here might have.

All good, had a nice conversation with the owner and he is able to refurbish these. Had info on another company that makes and sharpens the wheels. Great news for owners of these tools.
