Hey guys have a question about a Model 64 I'm working on. I would like to put a target hammer/trigger on my Model 64 (the extra purchase on the hammer/trigger would be more comfortable due to an existing medical issue). My question is will any K frame parts (excluding MIM revolvers) work in this revolver? I have seen some nice ones on ebay/GB.
Also I read in this forum, parts usually have to be properly fitted. Anyone have any suggestions on a gunsmith capable of doing such work? Thanks in advance!

A Model 64 with tapered barrel and round butt is a configuration that the factory didn't offer. I have a Round Butt 64 that I removed the heavy barrel and then sent it to S&W along with a tapered barrel and they did the barrel change. At the same time, I sent them a target hammer which I bought on EBay. I installed the hammer before I sent in the gun and it worked just fine with no fitting. I don't think the factory did anything to the hammer. Sometimes they drop right in - I guess I was lucky. Anyway, very nice Round Butt - Tapered Barrel Model 64.

Thanks Steve, Cylinder & Slide did the round butt conversion and I couldn't be happier! Just want the "finishing" touch to totally personalize it!

OK, the hammer is usually a drop in. However, the spring loaded double action sear on the front face usually has to be adjusted to the individual gun. If you swap the sear from the original hammer in, it'll probably work.
