Default M.12-2 replacement hammer

I just picked up a nice M.12-2 from the 1970's, did a trigger job on it and dermmeled the trigger smooth. It shoots very well.
I am considerting installing a replacement hammer to bob.
I know these M.12's have a thinner frame than the other K frames but is there any difference in the hammers from other similar time period K's.
TIA
Les

Yes. The hammer and trigger and probably some other parts are correspondingly thinner.

"Numerich gives the same part numbers for model 12s internals as the do model 10s."

This only applies on model 12-4s (1983) and after. Before then, model 12 internal parts were thinner. Model 12 .240" thick. All other K frames .258" thick. It's all explained in the big S&W collectors book.

Interesting post. 50-odd years experience with S&W revolvers, mostly K-frames and earlier M&P, first I've heard about the thickness differences.

Out of curiosity I pulled out my spare parts and mic'd several hammers. The post-WW2 M&P hammers all measured at 0.265" thickness. The common K-frame hammers of 1960s to early 1980s checked in at 0.262". I found two standard K-frame hammers of the pre-1980s period that are both 0.240".

Sounds like the books got it right!
