Quick range trip this morning shooting 357's, one of which was my 586 and after shootung a number of cylinders I had reloaded and closed the cylinder and couldnt cycle the gun. After a minute or two of evaluating the usual causes I fiscovered that one of the very small pins in the face of the cylinder that correspind to the two small holes in the ejector had come loose and I almost lost it.

Never had this happen, ever. How are they put in? Press fit? Its still loose and I dont want to loose it. Im sure it wouldnt hurt to shoot without it but I want it fixed eventually. I had been firing double action pretty agressively, could that have worked it loose somehow?

Sounds simple enough. Thanks PD for pointing me in the right way.

Loctite was my first thought but I thought there could possibly be some other S&W secret technique unbeknownst to mere mortals like myself. I mean hey, there wad no loctite in there to start with, that I saw anyway.

Thanks again.

Clean the hole and pin with Acetone, blow out the hole or let the Acetone evaporate completely, then Loctite the pin in. Mop up any and all excess Loctite with a Q tip. Don't let any go into the extractor shank hole. Let the extractor down on the pin. When the Loctite sets up, it's fixed.

Perfect advise. All I will add is to shake the Locktite before using and only use a small drop - a little goes a long way. Locktite comes in different colors which relates to its strength. Personally, I'd go with the Blue which is the medium strength and still somewhat removable for whatever reason you might have to. The Red "ain't" coming out without 500º F of heat. The lighter strengths might not be enough. The Blue should be perfect IMHO.

Put a dab of loc-tite on a piece of paper, then dab a tooth pick into it and place the loc-tite into the hole. Easier to do that than to try and squeeze some into the hole, or dabbing the pin in it. This way it's sure to get completely into the hole and not on the extractor recess.

Thats why I ask s&w questions here. Repair complete, and thoroughly tested. Passed. Ken was spot on too, they did snap in place and like toad advised I made sure to dab loctite down in the hole. I used a dental pick and all before reading their advice but theyre right.

I put about 4 boxes of full power magnums through it and they held fine.

Thanks folks.
