Won a King’s Super Target M&P

They’re very neat guns and not seen too often. I only have one, a pre-war OD which originally shipped to the California Highway Patrol School in December, 1936 with the King treatment being added later.

SouthNarc, congrats on the great pickup, and welcome to the King Super Target Club. Mine is pictured below.

Jeff, did yours come with those grips? What’s the story on them?

The stocks came on it when I got it. No idea how long they have been on it though, some have thought they might be Ropers. I don't really have any idea who made them, they're a nice fit for the gun though. The gun came out of the Jon Maxwell collection and he had some unique and interesting pieces. I'm bringing a couple of them to the Symposium next month, will you be there?

Unfortunately, I won’t, Jeff.

I have gotten over it somewhat, but I still kick myself for letting a Colt Officer's Match Special with the full King treatment go in a straight across trade for a then new Colt Trooper 357...I just had to have a .357 magnum and the old boy I had bought the Colt Match piece from was more than willing to do the trade and even threw in a box of shells to sweeten the deal. Live and learn...A couple months later when I went out to the shop to take a friend to see this guy's store, I see my old Colt in the "special" case with a significantly higher price than I paid originally. I asked the old boy "Hey Ed, what's the story on this old Colt I traded you?" He said "Kid, you probably didn't know, but King died."
