Default 940 extraction issues

Took my “new to me” 940 no dash to the range. After a couple of cylinders full, extraction became very difficult. In a previous post, it was mentioned that one could hone the cylinder chambers to alleviate this issue. This isn’t something I am confident doing myself. What do I need to know about honing the chambers? My guess is that a competent smith would know how much/little to hone. Please advise.
