This may have been covered before - but here goes. After shooting my model 60 3" full lug for the first time, I notice the whole sight assembly was almost ready to fall off. I tightened the front screw as snug as I dared. It was very loose. Assuming this came from the factory a little bit loose, should just a proper tightening keep it in place, or should I put a small amount of a removable Loctite thread locker on it then tighten? I would imagine with the right amount of tightening, it should hold without Loctite. Also is the rear most screw just for elevation, and not part of the assembly to hold the sight on? I don't have the owner's manual for this gun. Thanks. wyatte

wyatte,

Assuming you have a well fitting screwdriver just tightening the screw should be sufficient. A drop of blue thread locker Loctite won't hurt but really isn't necessary.

Check all of the screws periodically. For some reason it seems the fitters never tighten any of the screws more than just snug. Finding a used S&W revolver with the sight screw, sideplate screws, thumbpiece nut, and the strain screw all loose is more common than not. (Your 36 does not have a strain screw!)

The rear screw is the elevation screw, it serves no function of retaining the sight.
