Could someone please give me the
exact size of a front blade sight for a
S&W model 58.
I have found a few on ebay but unsure of the
correct size.

Thanks in advance..

Are you asking about a pinned front sight for a Model 57? The front sight of the Model 58 is integral to the barrel and not replaceable.

I wonder if it’s the more recent version 58
Dash -1
Might be pinned in front sight
I can’t find a pic so just a guess at the moment

Edited
Disregard
Looks integral

I've seen the gun in question myself...It's definitely replaceable...How it came off and got lost by the previous owner will always remain a mystery......Ben

Interesting. I wonder if it was replaced by a gunsmith and then disappeared?

Images would help.

Hey Xfuzz, FWIW, my poor old Model 58, serial number S331xxx, indisputably has a pinned front sight. Serrated black ramp, of course. It is 0.124” wide and stands about 0.220” tall from the rib of the barrel.

Pinning in a new sight on your nickel finish gun is going to be quite a delicate job. I don’t envy you. Good luck, sir. :)

Those are the numbers I was looking for...
Many Thanks..

This is my M58 (SN S2968xx) front sight. Forgive the red nail polish, I shoot this one fairly often. I don't see a pin, but it doesn't looked machined either, there isn't an expected fillet along the joint with the rib. Are these pressed in place? It looks like it could be removed.

If you think of a “press fit” as an interference fit, no, probably not. The fit, in my limited experience, is something like a “very minimal clearance fit.” These guns are just production items and there will be slight variations in both the blade and the slot sufficient to affect fit.

The blade on my 58 appears to have a narrow tennon, meaning the tennon is not the same width as the blade itself. I can’t be sure about that without removing the sight, but it doesn’t look like the blade fits into a slot of the same width. Maybe Xfuzz could let us know about that since he has a replacement sight?

If you really look carefully, with the aid of a high powered flashlight and some type of magnification, I bet you will be able to spot the pin. Be sure to wipe the area absolutely clean and free of any oil. On my gun, the pin is higher up in the rib than you might expect.
