    Early 19-3 3" 1968ish

Yeah, at least to my eye, SouthNarcs gun looks right; there's a slight radius down to the barrel rib. The OPs looks too squared off. I can't resolve the pictures clear enough to see if it's a too long rear sight base or the frame itself

    Early 19-3 3" 1968ish

Is it me, or is the transition from frame to barrel a little "abrupt" (for lack of a better word)?

    Aguila 22 ammo

I'm not knocking CCI SV, I shot it literally for decades as the round of choice in our indoor Bullseye pistol league. I NEVER had a jam or misfire in my Ruger MkII. Then the pandemic shortages hit. I'm just saying, this last brick I opened (dated as purchased in 2021) was more like...

    Aguila 22 ammo

I shot a few different varieties of it a few years back, during the height of the pandemic shortages it seemed available. I don't recall it being particularly "waxy " but that could be differences in lot, etc. So it wasn't particularly bad, but it also wasn't good enough (accuracy wise in...

DESTROYED MY K38 TODAY/ update #139/ range report post #148

And how long did it take your mechanic to run a full diagnostic on your car before you went to the range or gravel pit where you set up your chronograph before you shot? What? Surely you take such a basic precaution every time you drive your car, don't you? You sir are what's wrong with these...

DESTROYED MY K38 TODAY/ update #139/ range report post #148

This is nonsense. If I am just casually shooting, I'm not setting up a chronograph. And yes I do have one for when I actually need one.

If guns could talk what would yours say

Not sure about the Smiths, but my skeet and sporting clays guns would definitely say "Man he swears A LOT!"

    Birth Year Guns

Not a Smith, but yes. I purchased my Browning A5 Sweet 16 (the old Belgian one, not the new incarnation) in 2016 as my "3rd 50th birthday to myself. " I turned 50 that year. I did not know nearly as much then as I do now about A5 serial numbers and date codes, I bought it because it was a...

44-40 cast bullets out 44 mag gun

Ihave guns that apparently have never read the rules. My pre 25 with oversized throats doesn't know it's not supposed to shoot .452 cast bullets well. Please don't tell it!!

    Ultrasonic Cleaner Question

Yes, we need to know are you cleaning guns, reloading brass, what?? So far I've only used an ultrasonic to clean brass. I'm trying to minimize my exposure to tumbling dust. I've only used a commercial brass solution that you mix with water. It gives good results but I too am looking to...

Do Gunpowder and Alcohol Mix? Opinion Survey

I don't drink anymore, but even when I did, my thought was that they absolutely do not mix, in any quantity. And the two clubs I belong to are dry. Probably one of the easiest ways to become an ex member is to violate that rule. I support that 100%

    S&W Model 27-2 Nickel 8 3/8"

I have basically the same gun, but mine had checkered Targets, and sadly no presentation case. But the nickel finish on mine is also immaculate. That gun scratched 2 itches. One, I didn't own a nickel plated Smith, and I also had never owned an 8 3/8th gun.

Expired/Withdrawn WTS Lyman .30 caliber bullet mold

Lyman 311644 2 cavity mold. This is a discontinued design, it was a 190 grain bullet they listed as a "Silhouette " design. I believe they offered the same basic design in 5 or 6 different calibers. This was the bullet I shot Highpower with back in the late 90s/ early 2000s out of my 03A3...

    30-06 cast bullet load....

Me too. My loads run about 1600 fps, and my current boolit is a 155 grain, although I used to shoot slugs in the 190 gr range. I just love shooting my 03 and 03A3 with these loads, in addition to my deer rifle 06s. In fact, our NRA Highpower League shoots the reduced 100 yd course on reduced...

    M-1 Carbine Piston

Everyone realize the pictures posted are NOT the OPs. That is a responder posting pics for illustrative purposes. So we are not looking at pictures of the carbine in question. My piston moves freely with finger pressure. My castle nut was lightly staked, in fact I routinely disassemble mine...

    30-06 cast bullet load....

I too settled on 2400 years ago, but I also played with IMR 4227 and as I recall it did well. Like you, when my current supply of 2400 dries up I will have to find an alternative.

    2400 Available Anywhere?

2400 is indeed a difficult powder to replace. If you are using it for .44 and .357 magnum pistol loads, there are lots of other alternatives. Some things that 2400 has been a staple for for decades, not so much. I use it for a lot of cast bullet rifle loads, and the data isn't there to do...

    M-1 Carbine Piston

I'm interpreting the OP as saying the piston is stuck in the housing on the barrel (stuck forward.) I concur, penetrant and some gentle wiggling should free it. If not, ad Matt X suggested, reassemble and go to the range and fire it. That should knock it free, then disassemble, remove castle...

    38's vs 357's

I belive the " light Special" quote was from Magnum Force, not The Enforcer. The .38s ricocheting off windshields was indeed The Enforcer. I loved those movies as a teenager. It seemed to me the guns were as much the stars as the actors. Dirty Harry was very much the Model 29 vs the Walther...
