Anyone Else Like The War Baby?

Love the M1 Carbine. Grew up around them. First firearm I ever shot was an M1 Carbine at 6 years old. Well... my dad helped me hold it and I pulled the trigger. I now have that Carbine, a Quality HMC (with the Rock Ola barrel) and also the Underwood that I've had for 40 years now. I've...

We all know a M10 is not a target gun…But

The Model 10's got it where it counts. Mechanical accuracy is good as any other Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver. Here's my old favorite Model 10 a few years back when I was testing handloads, the 148 grain hollow base wadcutter loaded with 2.7 grains of Green Dot against the old standby...

    10-5 snubby carry ammo?

I'm with you. Either factory +P 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter loads or equivalent heavy hand loads using cast lead 158 grain semi-wadcutter bullets fueled by suitably heavy charges of Unique. The old so called "FBI load" if you will. It's the most appropriate "performance" load for all .38...

    Favorite Model S&W revolver Poll

Ok Model 10 fans. We gotta push our Smith & Wesson model into the lead! Give me a T! Give me a E! Give me an N! What does it spell? Model 10 ... rah ... rah ... rah!!!

    M-1 Ammo: A Question?

But, how do we tell from a chronograph that the factory load is too hot for the M1? I use a chronograph too, but it doesn't measure port pressure. It's also possible to assemble handloads with certain propellants that yield relatively low velocities yet still induces violent ejection.

    M-1 Ammo: A Question?

In reply LVSteve, it must be ask how we know that common factory ammo has the wrong pressure curve for the M1? If the rifle is ejecting empties forward and too the right of point-of-aim, say 1:00, and capable of dumping the empties all in a coffee mug six feet from it (so to speak) port...

    M-1 Ammo: A Question?

I've shot an M1 for decades. Have shot one in high power for decades, putting lots of rounds through it. Shot it for a few matches so far this year. No adjustable gas plug and no special Garand ammunition has ever been used and I'm not going to start now. Any 125 grain to 180 grain bullet...

    Model 13-3 3-inch - Why So High?

When the market bears prices like this, we can't be talking about real money, but rather some sort of inflated currency. Just a garden variety Model 13 3-inch. Nice, but not pristine. Did y'all see this one? Attention Required! | Cloudflare

    The ‘snub nosed’ handgun

I love owning snubs and a number of 'em roost in the safe, but don't make use of 'em so much. The boring ol' 4-inch barrelled revolver is my very favorite.

    +P in Model 36

I've shot Winchester Westerm +P 158 grain lead semi-wadcutters in a Baby Chiefs Special made in 1952. It ate it up. Current lightweight bullet +P .38 Special isn't worth the amount of ink it took to print "+P" on the box. +P .38 Special has never been worth all the timorous dithering that...

    1911 .40 S&W

I do esteem the 1911-gun and see it as a great choice in which to do .40 S&W. An early 1990s Colt Government Model Enhanced in .40 S&W also lives here. I think it was a one year production offering in 1993. I don't care for the Enhanced features, but the pistol gives perfect functional...

    Two inch Model 15

Well, count me as jealous BAM-BAM. I've longed to add a 2-inch Model 15 to the menagerie here. Love the Model 15 anyway and think the 2-inch is one of the most "bi-nesslike lookin' " handguns ever made. I primarily want one for its smart appearance. Sure hoping to see photos of yours.

I’m heartbroken - 18DAI has left the building

I am gutted to read this. Only knew John through several forums, but he was clever and thoughtful in his posts. This one's tough to take.

Getting a Model 17. New or old?

Since this thread is about the Model 17 it is auromatically forever valid. A 4-inch K-22 from 1952 lives here as well as the 8 3/8-inch Model 17-4 that I bought new in 1980. Pinned and recessed 6-shot K-22s are best in my book. No full lugs or 10-shot cylinders required here.

    M29-2 Did I do good?

I think I could have rectified the sticky action and sight issues for cheap and improved the original finish enough to make it look presentable. No refinishing required. Then it'd be ready to do an honest day's labor. They don't all have to look like safe queens.
