I'd Sure Like To Have THAT S&W Back

Not too many regrets specifically on selling S&W's.....with one notable exception. A fellow Detective I worked with had offered to buy my M66 3" (Ashland edition). I'd owned and shot it for many years, used often for OD carry. I was suffering a bout of M1911-itis fever and figured I'd let the...

    Berry's Hybrid JHP's - experience?

Got a decent deal on a quantity of Berry's bullets which they refer to a Hybrid JHP's in 10mm/180 gr. JHP and .45 ACP 185 gr. JHP's. Do recall trying some plated HP's (Ranier?) some years ago in .45/230 gr. and they shot and grouped well, but expansion was near nil at typical upper-end .45...

    .350 Legend reloading not fun

I've actually enjoyed loading .350L for a few years now. My Ruger American Ranch shoots most loads into far too small a group for a 'budget rifle'. I found that Starline brass was better than about any out there. I DID have to obtain a dedicated primer seating tool, the bench-mounted RCBS...

Winchester Super X 22lr 40 Grain Copper Plated RN

Can sure testify that since the panic-buying days of the B.O. days, when most all ammo, especially .22 RF became difficult to find - in the aftermath of that QC went downhill. Like most, my experience has shown that CCI and Blazer variant is at about the top of the pile for quality and...

    Ruger Security Six

My current S6 is an homage to my FIRST centerfire revolver that I bought working my first 'real job' at a LGS when I was ~17 in 1974/75. Had to get my Dad to obtain the purchase permit for it (the law back then) and do the paperwork. At the time, the most sought-after .357 in SS was the S&W...

    Midway

I bought a 1 lb. can of 'Herco' at an LGS that carries just a smidgen of reloading supplies. They had nothing else I could remotely use..... IIRC, it's been discontinued, but pretty sure some of my older manuals will show some usable data for it in my main handgun calibers - 9mm, .38/.357...

    model 12-2 Airweight questions

A M12 4" RB I found at a LGS that usually has nothing but black guns. Picked it up for a bit over $300. No one there had any interest in it. In great shape, tight, s/n puts it at c.1975. Great shooter with standard .38 ammo. Do carry it occasionally - and you can forget it's there!

    Pre-1980s 3” K-frames?

A non-model marked M&P .38 3" that according to S&W Historian Roy Jinks was shipped in 1958. Standard, or 'tapered' barrels are not as evident and obvious in the 3" versions. This one came into an LGS where I was working a p/t retirement job. Had been traded in the previous day by a young man...

Which S & W is comparable to Colt Python?

Got my first-ever Python this past year, a c.1970's 4". No box, a slight blem here and there. Been a S&W guy for over 45 years. Have a plethora of K frames and N frames, but have never put an L frame in the mix. So, the Python is my stand-in L frame ;) My take on the legacy Python is that it's...

    Midway

I'm one of very many that have used a LOT of Unique over the years. I have jumped around and experimented with a few others. I used to have a small LGS near me that had really low prices on AA powders...... - between AA-2, AA-5, AA-7 and AA-9 they cover a lot of different uses in handgun...

    CZ-52 Czech Military Sidearm

Had one for a few years back when they were cheap, and in my area the 7.62x25 was the LAST of the cheap surplus ammo after everything else had gone way up in $$. Last batch I obtained was obviously sub-gun ammo, extremely hot and very hard primers. at least 1/3 of the rounds required 2 firing...

    .38/44 HD 4 inch

Mine, a c.1954 4" was obviously a work gun at some point. The Magnas that came on it were in poor shape, the RH panel having been beat up badly. Forum friend 'old bear' gave me a pair of period-correct diamond magnas and the BK grip adapter makes it even more enjoyable to shoot. I like loading...

    pants problem

I am not skilled at sewing - at all. But, I have repaired or reinforced many items of clothing by hand-stitching with a sturdy needle and braided fishing line. My favorite line for sewing is 'Spider-Wire', usually in dark green in the 30 lb. test range. Does not show and is super-strong. Once...

THE BEST 22LR RIFLE I HAVE EVER SHOT IN MY LIFE!

My personal go-to for my best accurate .22 is a 20+ y.o. Ruger 77/22 that is SS/Laminate stock. With the right ammo, it is truly impressive. Amazing what it can do with Remington 'Viper' hyper-velocity ammo, and on Crows out past 100 yards. A friend's CZ 455 (?) was truly impressive. Recall a...

    Smith Wesson 1917 45 ACP

I was fortunate to get one from a friend at about 1/3rd the going rate some years back. Ship date February 1918. Hardly a mark on it and is the only 'safe queen' I own. This actually MADE me buy a very 'shooter grade' Brazilian M1937 as a 'stand-in shooter', so even though I got a great deal...

    Colt 1911 38Super to 9mm Conversion

My 'Super' is a RIA in 5" GI configuration, with supported chamber. I bought a RIA 9mm barrel, and already had a mix of several M1911 9mm mags. Actually, I was surprised how easy it was - and the OE recoil spring has worked fine with every 9mm load I've tried. Did it mainly 'cuz my range is...

    Potentially, an unpopular question!

I keep expecting a switch to 'MPP' - 'medium pistol primers' at any time now.......

    reload 9mm?

I went quite awhile NOT loading 9mm because I'd stocked up on cheap bulk 9mm ammo, much of the Russian steel-case stuff. Fine for drills, practice and training. And - on my grass range, it felt great not to have to go look for spent brass. Most of that stuff was acquired for ~$5-$7/box. Now -...

    How about a new Model 12 (412?)

A neat concept - I'm stuck with making do with this M12 4" RB. c.1974. Great shooter and you hardly know you're carrying it.....
