pants problem

I have been carrying with a $30 Gun Belt, 1 1/2", steel lined at 4:00 o'clock for many years. I literally carry 24 hours a day! Since I retired from my Dept. I have worn jeans almost exclusively for more than 30 years and have never had an issue with the belt loops on my jeans as you picture. The jeans I buy exclusively are Wrangler.

Your loops appear to have come un-sewed, not the fabric itself tearing!

Since your last post says you will be trying Wranglers too I think you will find your problem has been solved.:D

I'll echo what others have said, Wrangler. I usually purchase the Cowboy Cut Original fit and, for me at least, they last a good long time, not to mention I can actually get these in my size. My legs are still longer than the circumference of my waist...

Lee here for decades without a problem. But there’s a brand of cargo shorts I love because of the cellphone pocket, and their front right loop is in exactly the wrong place for AIWB. Thanks to Lobo I will now get that fixed!

Summer carry is S&W shield, cooler weather CZ PCR both in Milt Sparks VMII IWB. Belt is 1.5 inch I forget whos belt but a good gun belt.

Well I think the issue is the 1 1/2" belt you are using. I'd go with 1 1/4" instead. I believe the 1 1/2" belt might be putting to much pressure and stress on the belt loops.

Is anyone else having this problem? This happens with every brand and its always the same belt loop. The only thing i can guess is its caused by my stiff belt. never had this problem before I started to carry, so its been going on for some time. its not the stitching coming loose but the fabric gets torn.
I carry at 3:30 or so IWB. They don't make denim like they used too.

It’s the stitching, today’s jeans are designed for fashion vs durability. You can reinforce the stitching or use a belt that distributes the weight better.FYI, even before I carried my jeans broke in the same spot after a few years.

Suit coats and sport coats received an insert of light canvas around the torso to protect the linings from sharp edges (hammer, rear sight) and keep from snagging.

Very interesting. Back in the day, when I wore a suit daily (and we did not have a concealed handgun license/license to carry and who cared, right?), I had the interior, left breast pocket of each coat removed and replaced with quality denim. I could drop a small pistol in there and not even notice it all day.

I used to have that problem, but because my butt didn't keep up with my belly I couldn't keep my pants up without suspenders.

Solution Bib coveralls. Comfy, extra pocket top pockets.

Problem is if I want to use any kind of holster other than a pocket holster

My jeans have done that all my life. It's from pulling them up when they sag. Probably for you carrying has accelerated the process.

I seem to remember that having that problem with every pair of jeans I ever owned. Maybe not Wranglers but everything else.

I don't remember ever having that problem with my BDUs in the Army. I don't remember ever having that problem when I wore Wrangler work pants I don't remember ever having that problem with 5.11s and I don't remember having it with Wrangler cargos

I am not skilled at sewing - at all. But, I have repaired or reinforced many items of clothing by hand-stitching with a sturdy needle and braided fishing line. My favorite line for sewing is 'Spider-Wire', usually in dark green in the 30 lb. test range.
Does not show and is super-strong. Once done, you will not have any more issues at that location on the clothing.

Looks like it's one of the back belt loops near the hip pocket. I've had these tear out on my jeans for years, regardless of brand. I can't say for certain why yours are tearing out, but I do know why mine did, and it has everything to do with the way I'm built. I've struggled with my weight all my life, and one place where I always carry the extra is in my "love handles". Coupled with the fact that I have no butt to speak of, it's just plain physics that keeps my pants sliding down, and it becomes even more pronounced when I have some weight on my belt, like a gun. I've generally stayed fairly active both at work and at leisure, so with all that movement my pants have always needed hitching up regularly throughout the day, so often that I don't even really think about it, I just do it. And the easy way to do it is to hook a finger through those belt loops and give 'em a yank. Eventually, one yank too many has that loop tear out.

My advice would be to add a good pair of suspenders to your wardrobe. It should help.

I guess I should have taken a pic of the hole thats left where it rips out. its not the stitching coming loose. the fabric of the pants where the loop is sewn to give way. I don't pull my pants up by the loop.
I have taken the iron on patches and ironed them to the inside of my pants and then stitch the loop thru the fabric and the patch. I am pretty good with a needle and thread and do modify many things. Just tired of fixing **** that should be made right in the first place.
It is the loop on the right side just before the rear pocket.
Thanks for all the feedback on this thread.

I wore Arizona jeans from JC Penny for years. Started having them tear in odd places. They must have changed to a cheap fabric. Swapped to Wranglers and also Red Head, haven't had an issue since. Always look for sales. BPS usually has a black Friday sale on the Red Head every year from $10-13 per pair. I grab a couple every year or so.

Rosewood

I see that some of those jeans appear to be acid washed, which weakens the fabric. I now only buy dark blue jeans, and they have proven to be much more durable.

Been carrying on duty, off and retired for 51 years and never had that happen. Not even close. I think opposite of chief 38 and believe in 1and 3/4 inch belt and holster with same size slots. But I'm strictly OWB and don't understand how that could've happened IWB.

Think about it. Uniform cops strap on a uniform belt with a double layered holster and belt over it with keepers and another 20 pounds of gear. I've never seen that with uniform pants either.

I'll bet those jeans were farmed out to a low bid third would country.

Doesn't most of that gear ride on a separate duty belt that rides over the hips? And not make use of the belt loops? I don't know I've never paid much attention.

Knowing nothing about cop uniforms, I'd guess that they're made to take abuse. Probably why they hold up well. Mass market jeans, on the other hand are made to meet a price point.

Fixing worn jeans is one of the sewing tasks I run into regularly, so all this stuff interests me.
