First firing of the venerable Model 547

Ok another update, By chance I happened to notice a pre war K22-40 hammer in my spare parts bin and surprise , the hammer faces are pretty darn close. Problem is the K22 hammer stud is of course smaller and the pre war sear is totally different. K22-40 (left) 547 (right)

First firing of the venerable Model 547

Just wanted to give an update, So a K22 hammer will not work in a 547 for two reasons. First the 547 hammer stud is larger diameter .165" vs .140 " on K22 as well as an L frame hammer I just measured. Also, The hammer face is cut very different , the K22 has a visible shelf at the bottom of the...

    Anyone not prefer mountain guns?

I kinda like having the option of both. The evolution of the wide rib is interesting in itself. Iirc the wide rib barrel first appears in early 1949 on the K38 "Heavy" Masterpiece ( first appears in the 1950 AMC Iirc) and was done to increase the weight of the K38 (which was lighter due to its...

Any Experts On Pre Model 26 I'm Confused

Im a little late to the party and see the thread has drifted a tad but after rereading this thread on the OP's gun this comment caught my interest, prior to around 1980 target frames had grooves cut into the rear sight channel just ahead of the rear sight, that is except for the Model 28 which...

First firing of the venerable Model 547

I had not considered a K22 hammer will have to try that first. The 547 has the frame mounted firing pin as well as the holding pin mounted above it which is basicly around the same spot as a rimfire firing pin but the hammer face size and shape will be the critical part (Btw this had me curious...

    Anyone not prefer mountain guns?

While the "Mountain Revolver Mountain Gun " concept began with certain features IIRC the only features that have been consistent is the round butt grip frame, narrow rib tapered 4" barrel and smooth combat trigger. The chamfered cylinder might be one too although some seem alot less chamfered...

    1st Year Guns

Very nice collection, Now you have me pondering how many first year or early production models I might have. Imo where it gets interesting is when a new model is introduced and a certain feature is changed so that it is only found on guns made in a certain early time frame. Off the top of my...

First firing of the venerable Model 547

I was lucky enough to have stumbled on a LNIB 3" Model 547 some 20 or so years ago in a remote Florida gunshop and after quickly recognizing what it was snapped it up, the crazy part is that in all that time I had never fired it, that is until today (honesty amongst thieves right?) So I usually...

Looks like we are getting a new 617 and 610 mountain gun

If Lipseys is looking for more ideas a 6 shot K frame, 7 shot L frame or 8 shot N frame Mountain gun in 9mm sans iL with a built in extractor system ( think Model 547 here) that doesn't require moon clips would be great, if it included a spare fitted .357 cylinder even better.

Looks like we are getting a new 617 and 610 mountain gun

Not surprised, 10mm is the hot "new thing" having many new semi auto platforms and pistol caliber carbine (PCC) applications plus btw you can also shoot .40 SW in a 10mm revolver.

Looks like we are getting a new 617 and 610 mountain gun

Your Model 63 is a J frame, the 617 is a K frame, Apples and oranges. HEY LIPSEYS if your gauging interest in future products how about a .22lr Mountain gun built on the L and N frame and an 8 shot square butt no lock SS .357 Mountain gun built on the N frame with a checkered topstrap. Better...

    Model 14-3

Yes although its alot easier to see on the cylinder, when removed it looks like a raised ring or lip. In your guns case it will be totally flat there.

    Model 14-3

Im betting the gas ring will be on the yoke of your revolver. Its usually found on the cylinder until around the 1975-1977 time frame.

    Was there a 4 inch barrel 5 Screw K22?

Iirc the 17-4 and 18-4 were the end of the older style K22 barrel styles. The Model 18 was discontinued so there was no 18-5 and instead the 17-5 was introduced with a new wide rib thicker heavy profile barrel avaiable in 4", 6" and 8 3/8". That style continued until the middle of the 17-6 run...

    Was there a 4 inch barrel 5 Screw K22?

I did a one by one comparison of 4" Combat Masterpieces several years ago, Sort of an everything you wanted to know about the CM but we're afraid to ask. Here is a link, scroll down to post 25 to start the tour. https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/some-combat-masterpiece-eye-candy.365528/page-2

    My recently acquired Model 10

Besides the lack of ejector rod shroud the Model 10 HB is actually thicker than the Model 19 barrel and also has no rib grooves, They were used to make a small run of 4" HB target sight revolvers during the 14-2 revision known as "Hanen Specials" ( middle one pictured below flanked by a Model...
