    A little "Bluegrass" humor

We saw Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder last night. If there is a better commercial bluegrass band around, I don't know of them. He had some good stories about Bill Monroe, too. This was one group of extremely talented musicians, including an excellent banjo player.

    Renaissance Wax advice needed!

It is a very high quality wax. You should not use it on the internal moving parts of a firearm. I would not use it on polymer frames as it has no benefit there. It is acceptable for the slide or any external steel parts. It is quite expensive per ounce, but a little goes a long way. I feel that...

    Mindhunters

Mind hunters is well worth watching. Naturally, some of it is fiction, made for dramatic excitement. However, it is easy to see how the lay person can understand how interviews with mass murderers could impact one's psyche. As for language and sexuality, that is how people talk and act in real...

    Use your turn signal

I've driven in 49 of the 50 states and in a number of foreign countries. No place has worse compliance with turn signal use than Florida. We get the worst drivers from the eastern USA who use their turn signal the entire way in the left lane of the highway driving from Miami to Maine.

    Best single rifle gun case?

Pelican cases are wonderful for heavy duty use, but are quite heavy for everyday range use. Mine is 24 pounds empty. For airlines use, perfect. For casual use, overkill. For a breakdown gun, try Negrini, made in Italy.

    M&P 2.0 Compact Announcement

The new pistol allows sales in states like Colorado where 15 round magazines are the largest allowed. The reduction in overall size is not significant.

    Fire Extinguisher Recharging Question

As others have said, if you have a Kidde or other plastic valve extinguisher, buy a new one. A true commercial/ industrial extinguisher should have a paper or plastic tag with the certification instructions. Halon extinguishers use a specialized chemical that is very expensive to replace and...

M&P Shield return for warranty work

Six weeks for me, too. It took six weeks for me earlier this year. Fed Ex prepaid each way. It might seem like a long time for a person with only one handgun.

The Most Luxurious Train Ride in the world

You can check prices on their website. As I mentioned, it has been ten years since we went. It is not an inexpensive trip. The dollar has been strong against the South African Rand. Air fare on South African Airlines is very inexpensive, generally less than $1000 round trip from Atlanta or...

The Most Luxurious Train Ride in the world

My wife and I went on the shortest Rovos train trip about ten years ago. It was a three day trip, ending in Pretoria. The food and accommodations were wonderful. Food, alcohol drinks and Cuban cigars are included. The thing is, you only travel a few hundred miles in three days. The train does...

Reducing the Firearms Collectibles Tax Bite

Collectibles are indeed taxed at a 28 percent rate and this does not depend upon your income bracket like most conventional capital gains taxes ( i.e., stocks, bonds, mutual and other similar investments.) If you are selling a very expensive collection of firearms, this may be a concern to you...

Holster Jackpot - Milt Sparks - I missed one!

Phil: I think Tony and Jim Wall had their own special order round steel stamps to mark their holsters. Other workers may use steel letters like those to stamp wallets or other leather gear. I have a Boise holster that has the letter "MH" embossed on it. This must have been the maker's...

Holster Jackpot - Milt Sparks - I missed one!

SVT: I think "DVF" might be the craftsman's initials. None of my Idaho City made Sparks products have any initials and were probably made by Mr. Sparks himself. Some of my Boise products have the craftsman's initials in a Roman lettering font like yours. So, yours may be a late Idaho City...

Holster Jackpot - Milt Sparks - I missed one!

The 1911 Summer Special was made by the boss, Tony Kanaley ( TK). Look at the stamped logo on the next one over. The original Milt Sparks holsters ( made by Mr. Sparks) had a stamped rectangular logo "Milt Sparks Idaho City". I can't read yours. All of the Boise leather that I have seen have a...

Could someone check their Apex replacement barrel for me?

Thank you, Bill. I understand the Brinell hardness testing system and ironically the marks are somewhat similar to the small dents found after a Rockwell "C" hardness test. The black "melonite" OEM finish show no scratches or marks. You are correct that the softer Apex barrel has small surface...

Could someone check their Apex replacement barrel for me?

If you have an Apex M&P 1.0 full size replacement barrel, would you be be so kind to look at the bottom of the square area along the barrel's length and width to see if yours has small scratches or indentations from use? Apex says that this is a normal wear area, but it does not occur on the...

    Warranty Repair Times

My warranty repair took from April 7th until May 17th plus two days at each end for FexEx prepaid. I did not call to expedite at any time. So, figure on six weeks. I am happy with this waiting time. I can see that if you only have one pistol, this would seem like a long time. Don't feel...

    R.I.P. Powers Boothe

Unfortunately, his last role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was not very good. Perhaps he was ill at the time. He certainly had heavy pancake makeup on. May he Rest In Peace.

Sad to report WW2 M.o.H.R. Wilburn K. Ross passed away.

A great hero who now deserves a peaceful rest.
