    9mm 1911. Worth the effort?

I built myself a 9mm off a spare frame and really enjoy shooting it like others have posted. I made a 6" long slide out of it and topped it with a Burris Fastfire reflex sight. Easy to shoot very accurately. I had trouble with the Wilson mags, but have had great reliable function from the...

My CS45 after I rubbed on it a little bit :D (more on it here)

My take on the S&W CS45

Well thanks again for the compliment and the appreciation of my handiwork. I had hoped there would be a noticeable difference in extractor 'elevation' between loaded/unloaded so it would serve as a loaded chamber indicator by touch. Due to the long pivot point it moves so very little it's hard...

My take on the S&W CS45

Thanks for the compliment JJ! Not sure about the P225 baseplates or others. Sig has moved to big plastic floorplates these days like S&W. As for the wieght, it did come down a little, but the slide cuts were more for easier holster release and to try and take the bulky and very 'printable'...

My take on the S&W CS45

I only trimmed the nose down to my preference and trimmed the lock-plate to fit the slightly stubbier interior of the CS45 mag. All of my modifications were to the magazine body. The P220 floorplate likely won't do for the narrower 9mm mag body. There might be better choices out there, the P220...

My take on the S&W CS45

No lost capacity, the magazine still accepts all six rounds. When I first set about on this I calculated that the mag body would shorten by 0.200" so I made an aluminum spacer that thick and dropped it in the mag under the floor plate. I shot the gun before hacking the thing up and it ran 100%...

My take on the S&W CS45

Thanks Big Dog, I'm sure it could look even better if I had a real set of your grips on it. To be honest I spent a fair amount of time agonizing over how I would build a set of clear polycarbonate grip panels and an aluminum mainspring / backstrap housing like an ASP. In the end I (shamefully)...

My take on the S&W CS45

Thanks Mike, comparing me to Scott is quite a compliment! I'm curious how you came to make the comparison? I've actually worked on a few of those Colt .380's myself. It all started with that damn plastic trigger and Cylinder & Slides long back-order on an aluminum replacement... (picture that...

My take on the S&W CS45

Thanks for all the compliments! I should mention I'm absolutely not a gunsmith. The time I have in updating this gun is ridiculous. There is no way I could make a living doing this as I would starve to death before I completed a project. I started on this one back in September last year. I took...

My take on the S&W CS45

I picked up my first S&W auto, a '3rd gen' silver CS45E (Police trade-in gun, ambi-decock only) and have been working on it for the last few months trying to improve it's fit and function. The ultimate goal was to get it softened up and pocket carry it. There wasn't a lot left on the table so I...

    CS45 and Field Stripping

Once you have it apart, check out the plunger on the back end of the recoil spring guide rod. It's a plastic bit that may be chewed up / burred. Smoothing it out again might help in future removal. It helped mine but it's still a bit of a struggle compared to my 1911 platform guns :D

Can anyone help me with a manufacture date for a CS45

Two Guns, You can call S&W and they can give you a date from the serial number. I have a CS45 myself that is only a few hundred lower in the serial numbers and it was a 1999 gun. The ambi-decocker gun is most likely a police trade in (should say "Caution, decocking lever automatically returns...

    CS45 dilemma

kcode, I have the same gripe about my CS45. The frame is anodized and any modification to the surface will break through and leave a bright silver color where the bare aluminum is exposed. On a black framed gun it will stand out very noticeably. I called Smith & Wesson and their customer...

    3913NL FS on SigForum

For crying out loud!!! In my lovely state the 3913LS is on 'The List' while the 3913NL is not. Amazing how dangerous a gun becomes when you rub off the logo. grrrrr Oh well, I'm sure it's sold by now anyway...

    Help with CS45 Disassembly

Jetpilot, When I first tried to take down my CS45 I too felt like the slide stop must have a problem. I just couldn't get the slide stop out with finger pressure alone, in fact it felt like it wouldn't budge an inch. To remove it I held the slide in the correct take-down location by putting a...

Opinions of Decocker Only vs Decocker-Safety

I have a CS45 with this feature and like it. I've been a 1911 guy all my life and this is the first semi-auto pistol I've owned with a TDA trigger system. The 1911 thumb safety works in the opposite direction, where up=on safe / down= ready to fire. This might trip me up under duress so I'm...

CS45 Plastic Magazine Button Removal >And Upgrade to Traditional Catch<

As I just can't seem to leave well enough alone, I went ahead and put the frame back in the mill and dug out another 0.050". This allows the catch detent to be set flush with the frame surface as you kindly suggested it ought to be in your first reply. I like it and have edited my post and...

CS45 Plastic Magazine Button Removal >And Upgrade to Traditional Catch<

Fastbolt, All very sage advice. And a good time to remind forum members reading this that they ought not to try this at home (Cut to Mythbusters disclaimer clip)! As for getting specs from S&W, I would guess you're right. It's all about how you navigate the voicemail and departmental...

CS45 Plastic Magazine Button Removal >And Upgrade to Traditional Catch<

Thanks Fastbolt! I'm a hobbiest machinist at best. Not my trade by any means but I go slow and make conservative changes. I'm not so sure the 0.145" on center was the best of choices as the detent can be pushed out of it's bore towards the center of the mag catch but the action on the button is...
