    M&P 9mm compact or Beretta PX4 Compact

For a first gun, I recommend the MP9FS. It is just a little bigger than the MP9C but you can still carry it neatly in a waist band holster (Try a Galco WB472. The full size will be steadier and easy to shoot accurately. The MP9C is good for CC but you probably are not ready for that yet...

How many carry a round in the chamber?

If I were to carry my gun in public, I would carry with a round in the chamber so that it is ready to fire when drawn (no safety). But I've had the CC permit for nearly a year and have not yet seen a reason to carry. I live in a pretty safe town and do not venture into high-crime areas at high...

    M&P 9C or 40C ?

I own an MP 40 FS and have been looking for a smaller gun for CCW even though I can carry the 40 FS. I think the .40 S&W is the most reliable defensive round. But in the small size of the MP 40 C, the 40 kicks too much. I think the 9mm works best in the smaller and lighter guns, providing enough...

    How accurate is the M&P40

My 40FS came with windage adjustment on the rear sight. I only wanted a home defense gun so I have not checked accuracy carefully and 50 ft is all the distance I want. Everything I see and feel with the gun is first class. My trigger was good after a hundred rounds. My trigger pull is not very...

    Recoil of M&P 40C

Sitting here all relaxed, I agree: "Yes, I should be able to learn to shoot a small 40." But I would qualify that. I could not shoot it as well as a full size gun. On a man target I could learn to get a central shot where it would at least hurt the opponent. More trials will tell what I like the...

    Recoil of M&P 40C

You ought to look at Genitron.com. It covers most guns in use today. For recoil it uses a momentum formula that is not too complicated. (We can use it in spread sheets.) I certainly know it is not perfect. Our response is very subjective even while shooting. I went to the range today and shot...

    Recoil of M&P 40C

According to Genitron.com, the mass of the gun is the main cause of small guns having more recoil. In a few days I intend to test this by taking my 40FS with me when I rent a 40C and shoot a box of ammo at the range. I do normally shoot 180 grain on the range and as home defense ammo with the...

    Recoil of M&P 40C

I have had an M&P40FS for several months and am pleased with it on the range. My accuracy is pretty good as the trigger has worked in well. I like the feel of the gun. But it seems a little big for CCW. I would like that capability (and have the license). I tried a Taurus that others seem to...

    New M&P 40c owner... with a question

I have a magazine safety on my M&P 40 and like it. It is the only safety I have. I have been firing other guns recently that developed problems. It was always very tense as I carefully unloaded the gun without an accidental discharge. On my M&P I just drop the mag and I can relax and take a deep...

Shot my M&P40 and 40c for the first time today...

First, dry firing the M&P's is not recommended without using snap caps. I find the snap caps work fine for this. They feed ok. I like M&P pistols too. But just curious why you made the change. Sounds like you had the CZ all tuned up. I'd never give up a gun that well set up.

    M&P 40 w/mag safety

I have the one with the mag safety and the internal lock. I had to take the internal lock to get the 15 round magazine. (I just ignore the lock.) I'm ok with the mag safety as it is just my home defense gun. I think the number is 209000 but the memory is not that sharp. Check the 2011 S&W...

    M&P 45 Pros and Cons?

Can the M&P 45 FS or C use +P loads safely on occasion?

    TAC Light/Lasers for FS M&P

Thanks for the reply. The reason I ask is that I had trouble years ago putting a Weaver scope on a Ruger 357 revolver. It looked easy and was easy but the scope had to be reset after each shot!

    TAC Light/Lasers for FS M&P

I am considering getting a Light/Laser such as the ITAC or L3 Insight. Are these easy to attach to the rail so they will stay put with recoil on a 40?

Is the M&P pistol fully cocked when a round is chambered?

Compared to SA/DA as defined for revolvers, the M&P's are essentially all SA once you chamber a round, whether you fire a single round at a time or several in succession, you don't have to perform a separate cocking action with the trigger. The trigger motion is short, quick and easy very much...

    M&P 40 ???

Eventually she'll probably want both a 40c and a 40FS. The FS will be fine using the small grip. Keep an M&P clean but not oiled excessively and it will work fine. You should also be aware there is a choice of safeties on the M&P line. You can choose from none, mag safety or thumb safety. Her...

    M&P TRIGGER JOBS ADVISABLE!

Without getting into the legal nuances, and at the risk of sounding like one of those "paranoid candyarses," I'd just like to point out that anyone getting a new M&P would do well to shoot a few rounds through their gun before getting a trigger job. Mine's pretty good as it came from the factory.

    22A

Sounds like you might have had the same problem I had om the second range visit. The mag did not lock in place after loading a few times. This caused the second round not to feed. Just make sure the mag is firmly inserted. I bought mine as a practice/training aid for my MP 40. It fills that job...

    Orange Thing with 22A

OK. That makes sense based on its shape an d the photo does show it well. But I cannot insert it. It looks like it can only be inserted after field stripping the gun. When, how and why is it to be used?
