    Doris Day - R.I.P.

Truly one of a kind, and a classy lady. Audrey Hepburn is the only other actress that was anywhere in the same league. I think I’ll watch Doris Day in “Calamity Jane” tonight. Wonderful movie! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YKlSNnscZck

What .38 was my Dad issued in Vietnam?

As an SP in SEA I mostly worked at TOC (Headquarters). Nobody else wanted to work around officers but I found them to be pretty nice guys. The F4 pilots got their flight gear in the same building so I saw them come and go a lot. I was a gun person at the time and paid attention. The Model 15 was...

    ACOC scopes

I had to quit iron sights years ago; I had just gotten back into AR carbines again and there was no way I could focus on the front sight AND a target. As the gun fund allowed it at the time, I wound up buying a l.5X Compact ACOG. Solved the problem beautifully. I liked it so much that I...

    When enough is enough

I figure the if I haven't owned gun 'X' by now I really never wanted it that badly. And over the years I bought a lot of guns that I wasn't that interested in after all, or just didn't pan out. But the ones that did are keepers that put a smile on my face. Some months back I did hit pay dirt on...

    Carrying with a bad back

That's a good article... Major heart surgery last year did a number on me. I too like 1911s and full sized duty guns. My problems started while I was on vacation and using a new Ruger EC9S 9mm in pocket carry. For about 10 months that has been my buddy. It's flat, light, and fires 7 rounds. It...

    New Shield Models

I have a LOT of questions about the furnished red dot sight. I am quite tempted by the 4" .45 Shield and the RDS concept. BUT I would prefer to know a lot more and make my own decision on what to get and mounting details. Sort of the "cry only once" approach. This is a bit like buying a specific...

    Ruger Revolvers

I refuse to own an ugly revolver. They are definitely a disturbance in the Force.

    Anybody Make their own holsters?

I've made a few; some turned out ok, a couple didn't. My first was a copy of one Bianchi's #2 Speed Scabbard for the 1911. I was in my last year of college (1965!) and couldn't afford the real deal. I used a heavy grade of shoe leather which was incredibly thick and tough. Turned out pretty...

Ruger Wrangler .22 - anybody seen one?

I have been pleasantly surprised with the utility of an EC9S I bought about a year ago as and EDC. Yes, I prefer something closer to a compact, duty-sized gun (think 4" K frame/LW .45 Commander/Glock 19) but the little 9mm Ruger is small, flat, economical and functional. For the moment it does...

LEO Off-Duty and Retired Carry %

Retired from a large federal agency 25 (!) years ago. From 1972 onwards to today, if you turned me over and shook me, some sort of gun would fall out. Some guys were gun-oriented; most weren't then and now. LEOSA doesn't do me much good as my old outfit didn't support it and the local agencies...

    50 years ago today

4 year hitch Security Police; started in '65. First assignment was Beale AFB, where I pulled duty around the first operational SR-71s--a real hoot. 66-67, Ubon RTAFB, 8TFW--Wing Commander, Robin Olds. Mostly worked around the TOC so met quite a few of the pilots... Saw Old's Operation Bolo go...

totin a Browning Hi Power - gettin hooted at! ***UPDATE***

I have liked the BHP Ever since 1959 when Jeff Cooper gave them a favorable mention in his book, Fighting Handguns. The first one I ever shot was a Canadian issue Inglis, in a “Commando Match”. pretty racy stuff in 1960! in those days I mostly shot 1911s. Finally got an Inglis of my own many...

Killed my TV two months ago. Not that I ever watched it; but it sure felt good to chop it off. Kept the internet connection, though.

Purdy Nice 4" Blue Triple Lock Now Off The Grail Gun List

A nice 4"TL is one of the few things I am watching out for. I have one that is a placeholder but was ridden hard and put away wet. I had it restored so as to not totally waste the money; so it looks very good but is not even a shooter. It was an object lesson not to deal with auction houses...

Ted Williams' Pre War .38 HE

I bought one of those Sears Model 53 in .30-06 AKA the Winchester Model 670 in 1984 or so. I would usually hit the Army NG's KD range with it on most Friday afternoons. It was a very plain rifle--but would it ever shoot! Later on I found one in .243 for my daughter. Those were a lot of rifle...

    search for a real SALOON

I noticed a billboard on the way to Sheridan today that claimed the Mint dated to 1907. I kind of like the Irma in Cody myself.

    Laos now unprotected

I'm not really up to speed on my WWII tanks, but I am a John Boyd fan. When he was drafting his early presentations, he mentioned a Herman Balck. Balck spent a lot of time on the Russian front dealing with vastly greater numbers of Russian tanks--and often coming out on top. The US Army finally...

    Combat tv series question

Watched it faithfully my first two years of college; then transferred and no TV available. A few years ago Amazon had the entire series for about $50, so I finally got to watch it all. 152 episodes, as I recall. Some excellent ones, too.
