4" 617 Ashland. Should be elated but....

Ironically, I'm with the OP on wanting a standard 617 instead of the Ashland. The Ashland's profile is ugly to me compared to a regular 617's.

    I Rescued a Heavy Duty

I have to say that I find the gun seriously cool. From a retro perspective, I love the 38/44 HD's aesthetic with the non-ribbed barrel and full underlug. The wear and tear says that this thing has been around and used as a gun, rather than hidden in a safe or drawer somewhere and denied its...

.38Spl - reversing 147gr. bullets and using as wadcutters?

Haven't tried it, but not sure what depth they'll load to with my setup for 160gr LRN. I could see that. But note that I am only talking about approximately 500 bullets, so it would not be a long-term activity, nor confined to a single gun. But this issue would make me concerned about firing...

    Loaded on the nightstand?

One man's opinion. While I would never place a loaded weapon in an area where I place my hands when I sleep (e.g. under my pillow or on the mattress next to me), I have no history of grabbing anything off of my nightstand unconsciously during the night. I do think it's smart to hedge your bets...

.38Spl - reversing 147gr. bullets and using as wadcutters?

Trying to avoid buying something additional, or changing the existing setup. Since my 9mm loads are for competition, I'm not interested in making the wrong thing work. Since I shoot a lot of .38 for fun (as well as competition), I'm hoping that I can use the bullets.

.38Spl - reversing 147gr. bullets and using as wadcutters?

I have a quantity of Black Bullet 147gr. 9mm truncated cone bullets that are out of spec. They measure .358 in diameter, so they have been causing feeding/extraction issues in the 9mm semi-auto that for which they were intended. What are the thoughts of reversing them and using them as 147gr...

Home Defense Shotgun: Is 5+1 Enough?

There's an old saying that if six rounds won't get the job done, the problem probably isn't with the ammo capacity. Especially with a shotgun.

    9mm Competition

I use 147gr. bullets. Started off with Bear Creek moly coated, but recently moved to Bayou Bullets. Very happy with results and cost.

Does loading .38 spl make sense for me?

If you only shoot 300-500 rounds a year, then the cost of getting into reloading is probably far more than you'll spend on factory ammo. You don't start really saving through reloading until you are willing to buy your components in bulk (4 or 8lbs of powder at a time, 1000 to 3000 bullets at a...

What is your most aesthetically pleasing revolver?

The 3" M66 has such a beautiful aesthetic for me, although the 4" Colt King Cobra is a close second.

    Rarity of a 586-4 w/3" barrel?

Thanks. I know about the 686 CS-1s, but had not heard about special runs of the 586.

    Rarity of a 586-4 w/3" barrel?

Watching a GunBroker auction that closed this weekend. Is a 586-4 with a 3" barrel that rare that it would justify a $4500 final bid price?

Is this engraved 3.5" Pre-27 a $2,500 gun??? ((UPDATED PHOTOS AND INFO))

Factory work or not, that is a beautiful gun.

Opinions on the 66 w/2 1/2 in barrel?

    Just an iconic snub-nosed revolver.

    Price Check - Model 547 3"

You see them show up on Gunbroker all the time. They usually sell in the $1200-1500 range without the box/paperwork. The 3" was produced in higher quantities than the 4".

Playing to rather then by the rules.

You are electing to play a game because it is more entertaining than just practicing by yourself. If you care about winning/placing, then play the game. You'll find that as you advance in skill, your real-world skills will also advance even though you are using game-centered gear. But if you...

    The ASP Model 39 modification...

My father loved his revolvers, but for concealed carry, he was a big fan of the custom chopped Smiths. He had the ASP, Devel 39 & 59, and the Behlert 39 and 59. I inherited his ASP and Behlert-modified 39. The ASP has a lot of wear, but he loved carrying that gun.
