I used to have one of these and traded it off awhile back - wish I had kept it. I am looking at one now that still has original box with tools and paperwork. It looks as if it has never been fired, but I am thinking it has but very little. Guy is asking $2000 and says the 3" models are very hard to find and this is worth the money. What do the forum members think?

You see them show up on Gunbroker all the time. They usually sell in the $1200-1500 range without the box/paperwork.

The 3" was produced in higher quantities than the 4".

As previously said, there were more 3" models made and more than 10K all together. They are not rare and have extractors that are prone to breakage because of their design and materials. They are cool guns, but you have to really ask yourself what it's worth to you. I have seen them go for north of $3K. Good luck.

No way $2000. Maybe $1500 since he has the box. I'm of the belief that it's a $1200 gun with the fact the extractors can break and there's really no to fix them. Plus as said above it's the 4inch that's harder to find.

Max of $1,500, about $1,300 would be better for the gun if its in as good a shape as you say.

Like others have said its not rare, but its not common either.

I shoot mine, (3") its quite accurate and easy on the kick. Those extractor/ejectors can break, and they are quite complicated.

My machinist foreman son(a shooter) looked at and fired my gun and told me all looks good and to go ahead and enjoy it. He did remark on how much went into the machine work to produce that gun and why they use moon clips on guns!:D

I had a 3" many years ago, bought it new. For some reason it went down the road. I wish that I still had it, but not at a $1500 cost. Seems to me that this is a case where auction sites have inflated the cost due to "rarity."

Here's what I have for used prices on the 3-inch 547:

Smith & Wesson 547 3" RB Revolver in 9x19. Blue Book of Gun Values (38th Edition) indicates between $743 in 98% condition and $1100 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 83 recorded prices for guns represented as 95% or better using local and internet sources for this gun from $500 to $2280 over a period of 1433 days ending February 25, 2018. The average price as of that date was $870. Current or last MSRP is $317. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 9/16/2012 range from $975 to $2280 averaging $1395.

Prices still climbing. By the way, the Beryllium/Copper extractors are very tough, they do not break easily.

I picked mine up last year for an out-the-door price of $700.

It has a wear spot on the right side of the muzzle, and I've been carrying it in a Von Ringler cross-draw for more than a month with no new signs of wear.

Even if I weren't going to carry it, I wouldn't shell out two grand for one.

Thanks for all the replies. I have been watching these for sale ever since I sold my old one, and even though they made more 3 inchers than four, there seem to be far far more of the 4" for sale. And talking with people who have or had them, not a one person has ever heard of any problems with the extractors. I will try to get this seller to lower their price and see where it goes.

I had these for a few years.

3" Round Butt (Hogues for shooting, bananas went with gun).

4" Square Butt.
