STOP Shooting 38's in your 357's!!

Don't buy any of my revolvers, then. I'll I ever have shot, and will shoot is .38 Special. For me, .357 is a) for self-defense (which I don't use my revos for), and b) too long for optimum use in competition (which is what I use most of my revos for). I just learned out to clean my cylinders...

    reloading 9mm 147 fp

I use 3gr of Titegroup with Bear Creek 147gr. tapered cone moly coated lead bullets (OAL 1.135). I'm getting velocities in the 900-915fps range, and find it to be a nice, soft-shooting load.

Hmmm...my father has a Model 35 in beautiful condition. Wonder if that ammo is safe to shoot in it?

.38 Special load recipes for IDPA?

Guys, thanks for the input. I chrono'd my factory ammo yesterday and was disgusted that it was only reach 87PF. I think some of the smaller manufacturers are skimping on powder to save money. Since I have a sanctioned IDPA match in three weeks, I'm very eager to start reloading my own so that I...

    PPC Revolver Pics

I have to admit that I don't know. The PPC guns belong to my father, who shot for a California department in the '70s. I always thought the short barrel model was just his perverse sense of humor (he also has a 4" model that he actually carried on duty - see below), but I've read that there were...

.38 Special load recipes for IDPA?

Yes, I know that books will have basic information. I was asking for first-hand experience from IDPA competitors because they will understand issues like minimizing recoil, avoiding smokiness, using "cleaner" recipes that won't gunk up the gun as fast. Reloading manuals don't generally address...

.38 Special load recipes for IDPA?

I'm going to start loading .38 Special for shooting IDPA. Most likely using moly coated lead bullets or less-expensive plated/jacketed bullets (such as Berry's). Can anyone share info on what loads have worked best for them in run-and-gun type competitions? Thanks!

MODEL 14-6 FOUR INCH ROPER GUN FOUND IT!

It's a shame that they are so rare. They would make a fantastic gun for IDPA's SSR division. I have a Model 13 that Bill Davis mounted a 581 barrel on. The K-Frame makes the gun a hair more nimble for action shooting, and the smaller cylinder helps with the speed reloads. A 4" full-lug model...

Unfortunately, ammo will not be available for sale, and no firearms are available for rent. If you are attending, I might be able to get ammo for you. What caliber are you shooting?

686 Plus Pro vs 686 SSR Pro

IDPA is first, and foremost, a game. And because it is a game, you need to have equipment rules. Six-shot makes the most sense since there are FAR more six-shot revolvers than there are seven-shot models. It only makes sense to set the round limit to six. And remember, you can use a Plus in...

    3 inch 686 38 SPL

I believe that these were made for an export contract for a foreign law enforcement agency (possibly Brazil or Australia, IIRC). I saw one at a gun show in Orlando last year. Nice gun.

IDPA - The New Rule Book is Here

There are five gun divisions in IDPA. SSP is the division for double-action or DA/SA semi-autos. But glocks were also put in that division while XDs have traditionally been considered not double action semi autos. So XDs were put in ESP, despite the fact that the triggers between the two...

IDPA - The New Rule Book is Here

Keep in mind that it is only a draft. The comment period on the proposed rule changes closed a few days ago, so they are no going to process all the input and consider a second revision. The target date for the final draft is the date you stated...Oct. 1. I read the draft and submitted a bunch...

    Buying on GB.com

We have a process called Single-Shot Exemption (SSE) that some dealers (Type 7, I believe) are using to get around the stupid roster. Basically, if a gun is single-shot and has a 6" or longer barrel, it's exempt from the roster requirement. So, SSE-capable dealers are having 6" barrels made...

You have to pick the brass out. But I shoot mostly .44 Special in it, anyway, so it is less of an issue.

    New to IDPA

In theory, you do not need three mags for IDPA in SSP and ESP divisions (where the M&P would normally be placed). The rules state that a stage can't have more than 18 required shots, so 21 rounds (two mags + one round in the chamber) is enough to complete a stage. You just need to not take extra...
