    Colt Army 1909 45 Colt

Not sure if this applies or not, but there are more than a few of these revolvers that have been "converted" to shoot 45 ACP. This is usually done by "shaving" enough off the end of the cylinder so that it will close with 45 ACP rounds in a half moon clip. This would also remove the "RAC" that...

    Question about the 500 Magnum

Thanks guys. I have pretty much established that they all came that way. In terms of the unfortunate wrong feelings about this "stellar design" you may be interested to know that this is not the same design as Dan Wesson used. It is something like it I guess, but it is very wrong to say that it...

    Question about the 500 Magnum

I don't wish to start a debate or argument. There are those who think that the two piece barrel is a wonderful thing. There are those who don't. I belong to the second group. I will keep my reasons to myself, though. I just wanted to know if there were ever any that did not have it. It looks...

    Is a 30.06 a Big Bore Rifle?

I agree that it is a nonsense term. If you want your 30-06 to be a big bore, then congratulations you have one. If you don't want it to be a big bore, you can go that way and be just as correct.

    Question about the 500 Magnum

It looks to me like the new Smith 500 Mags have the two-piece barrel. Is this true? If so, how far back do I have to go to get one that does not have it? Thanks in advance.

    .22LR Rat(Squirrel) Shot

A half way decent .22 or .177 cal air rifle of most any make would do that job ten times better than that .22 rat shot.

    610 Throat Diameter Question

I know that the diameter of cylinder throats has been discussed a lot and seems to be an ongoing concern for a lot of people. Myself included. But, for the heck of it, I carefully measured the cylinder throats on all of my Smith revolvers from several eras. I used a set of very expensive pin...

    Simply Rugged

Plus one for Simply Rugged. I ordered their chest rig for my Freedom Arms. Their quality is top, top shelf. I will be ordering more from them soon.

    Star PD .45acp Pistol

I was real hot for one of these back in the day when there was literally nothing that launched a .45 ACP that came even close to the size of this gun. I searched in vain, but this was also in the day before the internet and no LGS within my circuit ever had one. Eventually Colt came to the...

    What does this mean?

Barrel and cylinder serial numbers match. I am unable to provide pics of the gun. Sorry. I forgot to add that the serial number begins with "S" as did all guns in its era.

    What does this mean?

Lee is correct with the first three numbers of the serial numbers. This is a .44 Special gun. From what I have read here so far it seems that this gun was sent to the service dept before it was shipped for some unspecified work. Could that have something to do with it ending up a 44 instead of...

    What does this mean?

I have come across a 1950's era N frame Smith with the number 8 and the letter S stamped into the frame under the grips. Does anyone know what this means?

Letters on the side of the box?

I found this on line. I think that it might help.

Where's the Quality Control Performance Center?

When they dumped pinned barrels and recessed cylinders they lost me.

Ban on guns with serial numbers removed is unconstitutional -U.S. judge

You got that right. I don't need a bunch of idiots who could not even spell the word "gun", or worse yet, trying to disarm me, having the power to tell me what is proper and improper when it comes to guns. I am okay with keeping them away from felons and having a minimum age to purchase, but...

    Titanium cylinders

You should contact the manufacturer and ask them what they would recommend. Many of these new materials and finishes can be seriously screwed up by using the wrong stuff. It takes two seconds to smear your new beauty with the latest and greatest wonder cleaner. It takes weeks of remorse, expense...

    Primer with 2 marks, timing?

I have heard that some of the earliest versions of this gun had issues with the cylinder not locking up completely. Supposedly the issue was solved by the factory using a more powerful cylinder bolt spring. For the price of one, it might be worth a try.

    New rear sights are Dangerous

My buddy put a round right through the face plate and out the rear of his chrony. We ragged on him terrible. The next shooting session my other buddy (who was present for the first shooting and seriously chided the first buddy) put a round through the replacement chrony. Almost an identical...
