"Second Six" Speedloader - New to Me

Competition practical speed loader mods include the Bubber Mod on Safariland Comp III's. Fair amount of work to mod but results are worth it. The other way is to simply buy Jet speed loaders and run them like they come out of the package. Speed loading a revolver requires that you allow the...

"Second Six" Speedloader - New to Me

I have a Dade or so in my speedloader collection. Yes they WILL send the loaded rounds flying if dropped on the release. The more robust loaders, ex. HKS, take a delibrate "twist" of the release and hence can take more of the usual carry use/abuse.

    Dillon presses

Impractical to own a bunch of pre-set measures. I have dozens of good loads, using dozens of powders, developed over the years. By whatever shortcut measure one uses, to return a Dillon powder measure to a previous grain drop of a particular powder, there is no substitute for checking the...

    Dillon presses

To learn to operate a 550, you first treat it like a single stage, thus using only 1 of the 4 stations until you get the hang of it. A strong light for the powder drop and bullet seating stations is a sound idea. Dillon (and others) have how to use video's. My 550 is factory spec except...

    Dillon presses

I started with a Dillon 300, then left it behind when the 550 was introduced. I've upgraded mine as improvements came along; it's a "C" model but without grease zerk. Protocall Design calls out accurate time frames for primer and caliber changes. I've loaded on Dillon 1000 and 1050's but do...

    M&p 15-22 will not group

Precision .22 shooters clean the chamber and leade only, leaving the barrel scrub for a "blue moon". They also clean from the chamber end of the barrel only, to avoid possible crown damage. I would also try some fresh .22 ammo. I've seen .22LR that's been stored or transported in hot...

Titegroup vs ??? for 38 special?

Titegroup along with a number of other powders work well in .38 Spl. My favorite was Solo 1000, which has been discontinued for a while. Accurate #2 works well with mid range loads. HP38/Win 231 good ones.

    ECM vs conventional rifling durability

I have personally worn out Colt and Wilson Combat factory handgun barrels. I've handled a fair number of ECM barrels that were seriously worn by nasty erosive powders. With good powder choices made, I've never worn out a ECM barrel. ECM barrels can be produced with deep rifling, if the...

How many rounds before you trust?

For carry acceptance, my long-time rule has been 250 rounds of zero failure practice ammo, with a few rounds of what I am actually going to carry in it at the tail end. That's for a used gun that's new to me and has carefully been checked over for excellent condition/safety. For a new gun, its...

Getting Pachmayr Gripper Grip onto model 19

A 625-2 Model of 1988 in .45 ACP that I once owned had Pach's from the factory. The grip screw was reduced diameter in its middle under the grip. Once the action was tuned a bit, the mainspring was interfered with by the screw when trigger was pulled DA or SA. I ended up drilling a new screw...

Getting Pachmayr Gripper Grip onto model 19

Perhaps contacting the grip maker, with a pic of the interference issue, is in order. Also be certain that the correct grips found their way into the packaging. There will be writing inside the grip to indicate what gun it is intended to fit.

    Ignoring Hi-Power

I've owned a few BHP's. One had the lower and the barrel "fall" into the hard chrome vat. That one was a real shooter! Recently I acquired a Springfield Armory SA 35. It's an absolute winner. SA updated the hammer so it doesn't "bite". Omitted the magazine safety in their version. Upped...

    Need help light strikes

My first thought is that what you may think is the factory strain screw really is not. I've never had a power rib mainspring fail to pop properly seated primers when using a factory length stock strain screw.

Looking for a gunsmith for old SW revolver

A proper S&W revolver smith has a snug fitting range rod to drop down through the barrel to check alignment of each cylinder with the barrel. If not aligned, "spitting" of bullet material, well beyond a little combustion products, is to be expected. Substantial spitting is bad for accuracy and...

Looking for a gunsmith for old SW revolver

You want a smith who specializes in S&W revolvers, not just a general gunsmith. Lots of nuances to working on S&W revolvers that don't fit the abilities of most generalists.

    Bad bore tool?

The damage looks like it's from the chambering reamer and how the reaming was accomplished. It is not part of the gun drill process.

    Bad bore tool?

If you send images of that barrel to the maker I would hope they would do the right thing, which is replace the barrel.

    Colt 1911 38Super to 9mm Conversion

In an optimal, 100% dependable sense, the slide breech dimension of a 9mm and a Super 38 differ. That is because the case head dimensions differ when optimized. You may get the swap to run, but don't expect optimal accuracy from both with the same slide. The magazines are definitely different.

    Break Free Problem

Years ago I discovered Breakfree LP (as opposed to the more common CLP product). I prefer to clean with another product, then apply the appropriate amount of LP. Never had a problem with gum-up, however I always apply only to a clean gun.

    Police trade ins

The Tulsa officers on the street were pleased when their problematic S&W 4046's were traded in on Glock 22 (ported). Those S&W's were well worn, in most cases, and difficult for the armorer to keep running dependably. The TPD revolvers were a succession of S&W's, which ran well with a little...
