    Sneaky Pete

The laws obviously vary greatly from state to state. Arkansas is an open carry state so I don't think it matters if it is obvious or not there. Concealed carry rigs are often somewhat obvious for those that know what they are but I doubt the general public or even the bad guys would know what...

    Home defense

All very valid points. Another being that the intruder may well have a gun. I live in a townhouse with fairly narrow stairs leading to the bedrooms. I couldn't effectively wield a baseball bat even if I wanted to. A hammer would be a better choice in close quarters than a bat if one had to go...

    Sneaky Pete

If I found it I would call the police myself. I have no idea what the law would require someone to do though. Interesting story though and a great reminder that mistakes happen and you always have to be vigilant when carrying a firearm

    Home defense

I am not a fan of baseball bats for home defense as you have no room to maneuver a bat. For that matter, I am not a fan of baseball bats for defense period as a trained individual can overcome them relatively easily. While I wouldn't want to fight someone with a baseball bat I wouldn't choose...

    How often do you shoot?

Not nearly as often as I would like. I used to shoot once a week. There are no ranges near me that allow tactical shooting though and I don't particularly enjoy shooting no more than one round a second and not being able to draw from the holster. I have land and access to a lot more family...

    I'm Back

Nope, no sisters. Interestingly, she was born and raised in NYC so a rare find indeed. Now, we live back in the South now so it is not too hard to find women that think like that around here. I would think there would be quite a few up in the North Woods in your part of the country. I also...

    I'm Back

Thanks. I enjoy "shooting" my tools with a camera as well as just shooting them. I make about a third of my income from my art photography though my guess on gun art is gun people would usually rather buy a real gun than art of a gun but nonetheless I will keep making it.

    Dry Fire Model 36-10

I do the same thing except I word the reload "The gun is hot." to which my wife has to acknowledge and then I acknowledge her acknowledgement. So, we verbalize it three times and it is the same every time and almost as if it is scripted.

    I'm Back

Yeah, I mod on another forum and really should have known better on the political stuff. In reality I prefer not to have a safety of any kind on any of my guns. I trained a lot on 686s back in the day and of course there was no safety. The HKs we carried when I was a Federal Flight Deck...

    I'm Back

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. It is nice to find such an active forum about a subject that is one of my favorites.

    I'm Back

I have two more budgeted in the short term then it is back to spending on camera equipment. But, I do like a statement my wife made which I agree with 100%. When she found out how much she liked the 686 she asked if we could trade in the 45. I said no as what I would get wouldn't be worth the...

    I'm Back

Thanks, I have always cleaned under the grips on a regular basis. This one is probably going to get some nice wood grips in the near future but even those get cleaned in my house. Thanks yall for the nice words on the pics. The 686 is my latest model and a lot more cooperative than alligators...

Do You Completely Trust Semi-Auto Pistols?

I have ran every kind of dirt cheap ammo I could get my hands on trying to see if anything might cause issues with my M&P 45 and after thousands of rounds in two different guns I have yet to have any malfunctions at all. (Yes, I still practice for them anyway.)

    Home defense

I like the bullpup KSG shotgun personally as the design allows for better weapons retention in close quarters than a standard shotgun. That said, because I assume my dogs would be attacking an intruder and I love my dogs, (a lot) I would likely grab my 686 loaded with Buffalo Bore low...

    'Lawyer locks"

I learned that in my very first forum post and managed to violate two rules at once...... Live and learn.

Going rate on a used 686 or 586

Results of my search I looked at used and new over the last couple years. (686s only as down in the humid south all my guns are stainless.) Since I wanted one without the IL I ended up looking at the local gun shows and on Gunbroker. It was hard to find one local at the shows so I went online...

    I'm Back

Oops Sorry about that. I should have known better on politics but wouldn't have thought the lock all that big a hot button. I'll take a little deeper look at the rules. Thanks for the welcome.

    I'm Back

OK, the title is a little misleading as this is the first time I have been in the forum. I am back in the world of S&W wheelguns though after a ten year or so break. I had one variety of 686 or another for 20 years after I turned 21. I have had a few others along the way as well as one Ruger...
