Anyone get a daily "news" paper delivered?

If I've got an appointment with some medical practitioner, I stop and selectively pick up a newspaper. If the wallet is up to it, the WSJ. I get some strange looks in the waiting room and a couple of MDs have commented on my practice. The local paper was pretty decent, family owned for...

    The Problem with Prediction

Left of Bang is a very good book. They also have a website with more information. The major problem being that one has to pay attention to what's going on in the world. All the training and gear in the world is useless if you're taken by surprise.

Interesting Averages for shots fired in a Self-Defense

While most armed encounters do end quickly, back in the 1960's the Pittsburgh PD had the chicken hill gun battle with bank robbers. IIRC, it pretty much ended when everyone ran out of ammo. But, the PD had more on the way. The bad guys surrendered.

    The Problem with Prediction

I can recall a local (at the time) small timer that up and killed first a cop -that he'd grown up with, they knew each other- during a stolen car stop, then while fleeing, a mother and daughter (stole their car). While serving a life sentence, he killed a prison guard. Wasn't any doubt at all...

    Volunteer XV

A suppressor jacks up back pressure regardless of the length of the gas system. The mid length is really the thinking persons choice for a 16 inch barrel AR as it reduces operating pressure in the carrier assembly and increases reliability. There is a suppressor (can't recall which one) that...

Third Gen Trigger Play Spring Replacement

Ok, working from memory: You need to remove the rivet that holds the broken spring in place. You can either grind the rivet head off from up top or flip the drawbar over and insert a drill into the hole on the bottom. I'd grind up top. The original trigger play spring had two fingers, the...

    Volunteer XV

OK, per the S&W website, the XV has a threaded barrel, but it doesn't have a hard chrome finished chamber & bore. So: removal of the flash hider/compensator to install a suppressor depends upon the design of the suppressor. The USAMTU determined that the melonite interior barrel finish isn't as...

Interesting Averages for shots fired in a Self-Defense

BB57 makes some great points, I'm going to polish a few. Your load out might well be situationally dependent. Running to the farm supply, get fuel/groceries and so on are one thing. Going on a road trip or visiting a big city might well suggest something different. Smooth is definitely best...

    Found me a 2020 Shelby GT500

Never really liked the standard Mustangs and couldn't afford a Shelby. But, around 1987 Acura came out with their performance car and I went to take a look at one. The sales person was a very attractive blonde lady (with short skirt -and nice legs too-noticed those in the test drive) who knew...

    Improvise, adapt & overcome

I found myself this morning with a hammer strut that didn't have the spring & bottom plate on it. I'm not going to get into how this happened, but I did figure out a way to get the very stiff spring compressed and captured and it might come in handy for others. Since compressing the spring was...

Like Bullets the dog, but kinda feel sorry for him/her. We had a pic of the CPLA target stand on the wall in our training facility, but I'm pretty sure the background was different on that one.

Removing corroded batteries from a flashlight

Had a similar thing happen to me. Managed to get the stuck item out, but don't recall how. I was able to get both head and tail cap off. Removal may have involved a steel bar, hammer and hardwood block.

    New A/C Unit

When we replaced one of our units last year, the tech told me it was a good time to do it as things were going to change big time come 2025. New-and larger-outside unit was about 4k.

Interesting Averages for shots fired in a Self-Defense

Your location, ethnicity, age, state of health and gender affect your chances of being an intended victim. As can your situational awareness. Predators aren't looking for fair fights. By the time you get to the point where you actually have to shoot, your probability digit has a few zeros to the...

I just reported what I read (OK, what I remember reading), talk to Cody/his ghost writer. OTOH, given that it involved ramblin, gamblin men, maybe 6 pm was their morning.
