Gas Ring in Cylinder of 64-2 2"

I know what a shim is. Just never seen one or really where they go to make them Work. In all the many revolvers I’ve bought used, I’ve never had one in the gun.

Here you go. Just a couple of quick snaps. I’m no photographer. Gun is really clean. I tore it down and it wasn’t too bad inside but surely needed a full cleaning. The previous owner had a shim in the cylinder that I’ve never encountered in all the used revolvers I’ve owned and tore down. I...

Gas Ring in Cylinder of 64-2 2"

Cylinder is back together. Thanks for the help! First time I’ve seen a shim in all the used guns I’ve bought. Guns seemed really tight. Obligatory pics:

Gas Ring in Cylinder of 64-2 2"

The entire cylinder was taken apart. I've done it on every used revolver I've owned.

Gas Ring in Cylinder of 64-2 2"

So pop it in the hole of the cylinder when the rod is out, make sure it's flat, and just assemble the cylinder, as always?

Gas Ring in Cylinder of 64-2 2"

I just grabbed one today. In very nice shape, but I always break down used revolvers to see what's going on inside. This one was reasonably clean, but still had some old grease and oil in there. I took it all apart and gave it a sonic cleaning, and it is now drying in a case dryer for my...

    My recently acquired Model 10

I’ve rescued quite a few revolvers. Seen some nasty stuff under the sideplate from well meaning owners squirting oil into the action. But cutting coils off rebound springs and filing down strain screws? No thanks. I figure S&W engineers knew what they were doing. I get maybe trying out a Wolff...

    Jammed up Smith Revolver.....

Or a bit of dirt or powder under the ejector star that is gumming it up.

Finally said the hell with it, on the BG2.0...

There's a billion dollar a year industry that exists because they've convinced gun owners that they need to spend more on accessories for a gun, or a class to use the gun, than on the gun itself. In self defense, it's point and yank on the trigger. Buy a quality gun, a quality holster, use...

Finally said the hell with it, on the BG2.0...

You're almost right. We were taught to do a tactical reload when possible and when from cover. So if you're crouched behind a car and you have 5 rounds left and want to do a mag change, stow the mag in case it is needed later. If the bullets are whizzing past your head, of course just drop...

Finally said the hell with it, on the BG2.0...

Why discard a magazine with live ammo? I get dropping the mag in the unlikely event of reloading at all, but why drop a magazine with live ammo? Retaining it takes almost no effort. But as for civilians doing tactical reloads, it’s mall ninja nonsense.

Easing into the first 25 hours is one thing. No need to do 100 on the way home from the dealership, but if your wipers didn’t work, or the car would occasionally stall, you’d bring back a new car. And cars are significantly more intricate than a gun. A cleaned and oiled gun should work...

Would It Be Wise to WAIT to Buy a Bodyguard 2.0?

I've had my M&P Bodyguard 1.0 for several years now. Other than the additional capacity, which isn't at all important for me for a gun with this purpose, I just don't see the need to get one. That may change. I like new toys and 98% of the guns I own don't get carried. All I know is that at...

    Inherited a gun

Yeah. Cops I worked with almost always changed out their wood Magna grips for rubber Pachmayr. There is no other grip that I shoot as well with as the Pachmayr Gripper Professional with the open backstrap.

Watch how you clean that nickle gun! I seem to recall ammonia based products are not good for nickle finishes.

Would It Be Wise to WAIT to Buy a Bodyguard 2.0?

Chambering a round to load it is one thing. Hand cycling a full magazine is another. Hand cycling does not replicate the firing cycle. Does chambering the first round require the extractor grabbing the rim and ejecting it? Over 30 years of in and out of gun shops. Never been in one where...

Would It Be Wise to WAIT to Buy a Bodyguard 2.0?

Yep. Any store owner who let you do that is a moron. And hand cycling doesn’t prove anything anyway, unless you can hand cycle at the rate a bullet being fired cycles the slide. And most of the gun shops I’ve been in don’t really have “professional gun people” in it. Some are better than others...

Anyone have their revolver reblued at the S&W factory lately?

I agree. A gun that can't be cleaned using Hoppes #9 is not acceptable. Not to mention most people don't even know that Hoppes has ammonia. Most start up gun cleaning kits in the sporting goods stores have Hoppes #9. The cleaning kit that I was issued in the police academy was a Hoppes #9 kit.
