    S & W 642 no lock-- should I buy?

Upon further review, I noticed some metal particles in the back of the trigger guard . I presume these are from the lockwork. Please play for me Roy Orbison's "Running Scared". I am presently negotiating for an old model 49 bodyguard. Best of luck to all. Old guy, old guns.

    S & W 642 no lock-- should I buy?

You people are talking me into buying this gun. I calculate my final sales price with discount coupon, taxes paid at $385 and of course no transfer fee and I get to look it over before buying.

    S & W 642 no lock-- should I buy?

The abrasions on the front of the frame have me scared. Is the barrel too tight? Will it crack soon? If it does I will not be defenseless. Fall back on my old 36 or 3914....or my collection of other 9mm autos... Colt lawman .357?

    S & W 642 no lock-- should I buy?

Are there two kinds of Airweights? Those with cracks and those that will crack?

    S & W 642 no lock-- should I buy?

Found one on sale. Would be under $400 out the door. Barrel looks like it's on straight, indexing ok, timing, cylinder end shake all appear ok. Some scraping on front of frame where barrel rubbed during assembly. Apparently not cleaned after proof firing. I would shoot it a lot before carrying...

    3914 ammunition choice

When I get my CC permit this will be my primary carry gun. What is the best sd ammo this gun can handle? Will it handle plus p or Nato spec? Thanks

    Need info on a 457 .45

I heard the plastic guide rod is a weakness. I contacted my favorite parts guy and he said he has none. He also does not like the third gen Smith autos as he says they are all problematic. My concern is the small parts. I would presume Wolff has springs. I know a gunsmith who will make parts...

    Smith and Wesson model 25-5

Seems like a lot of expense and trouble for this gun, for me. I want one I can reload and shoot. .454 chambers can be dealt with, but not larger. Then when I fall in the creek with it while chasing wily coyote, what happens to the value? I'll stick with my Rugers.

    Smith and Wesson model 25-5

Pinned barrel. I have not miked the throats as the gun is not in my possession. It is in a gun shop. My guess is the throats are probably oversized. I understand this is common on the 25-5. I load .45 colt for my Rugers and all my bullets are sized .452. I would have to set up to size to .454...

Looking to get a 9mm and need advice

For a compact 9mm, I like my S and W 3914. I do not carry yet, but if I did I would probably carry my old Smith and Wesson model 36 .38 special--maybe along with the 3914, in weather with proper clothing to conceal them both. Federal 9BP JHP in the 3914 and Buffalo Bore standard pressure loads...

Another one goes back to Springfield

So I buy my new Smith. I put 200/300 rounds of factory ammo thru it, then start with handloads. If something breaks then , the factory won't fix it because I used reloads. Maybe I worry needlessly?

Another one goes back to Springfield

You people are scaring me to death. I was going to buy a new 442 but decided to buy an ancient model 36 instead. I am interested in a 686 plus but am getting cold feet now. Mostly what I buy are the older guns but they are getting more expensive every year. Some people are probably carrying...

686 Plus with 2.5 inch barrel

I have read previous posts on this and other forums about quality issues, parts breakage, timing problems etc. Have these all been corrected by S&W now? (2014)

686 Plus with 2.5 inch barrel

Am interested in one of these. Please let me know how you folks like yours. It will not be a CC gun, but will be for plinking, load testing and poking around in the woods. Thanks

Army looking for a new handgun

A new US military handgun? The biggest problem with stopping power, of course is the Geneva Convention FMJ bullet. It's time to forget this, and NATO requirements. Has the enemy signed on to the Geneva Convention? The old .45 Colt was a stopper, as was the 1860 army with soft lead round ball...
