Pinned barrel. I have not miked the throats as the gun is not in my possession. It is in a gun shop.

My guess is the throats are probably oversized. I understand this is common on the 25-5.

I load .45 colt for my Rugers and all my bullets are sized .452.

I would have to set up to size to .454 or .455 but I do not cast myself; I would need to contact a caster and there are none close to where I live.

This past year I traded my 8 3/8", pinned, nickel 25-5 for a super nice M-58. The 25-5 was in very high condition. I know that doesn't help much in valuing the gun you are looking at but hopefully someone will come in with some solid numbers for you. I wouldn't mind having the gun you described. It sounds great.

If you're lucky.

I had an early one when they first came out. Keyholes and shotgun type patterning galore. The throats measured .456" - .458". It went back to Smith, but at the time all they had were cylinders with oversize throats. They hand picked one with the smallest throats they could find - which was more in the range you're thinking. Still far from acceptable.

That gun was stolen in a burglary in 1987 - it was the only one I wasn't sad to see go.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Seems like a lot of expense and trouble for this gun, for me. I want one I can reload and shoot. .454 chambers can be dealt with, but not larger.
Then when I fall in the creek with it while chasing wily coyote, what happens to the value? I'll stick with my Rugers.

I recently picked up a nickle 4' BBL 25-5 at a local show . THE CYLS ALL MIKED .454 AT THE THROAT AND .455 AT THE FORCING CONE. i WILL BROBABLY GET .455 LEAD CAST BULLETS TO SHOOT & RELOAD .I gladley paid $750. for the gun without any extras and would do it again.
