    strange occurance with 629

In 41 years of owning Smith & Wesson revolvers, I've had similar occurrences twice. The first was several years ago with a Model 19, which was dirty under the side plate. The second was with my 686-6 Plus. On that occasion the side plate screws had become loose. Easy fixes both times.

    Holster for 686 3"

Since you stated that you wanted a holster quickly, Galco makes their "Silhouette" holster which will work well. The barrel will be exposed, and this type is less-than-ideal for concealed carry, but it should suffice for your immediate needs. Kramer makes an excellent holster for the 3"...

    My new 686

As it came from the factory. With Eagle Grips' "Secret Service" stocks. When I first began shooting revolvers in the late 1960s and early 1970s, my shooting buddies and I were greatly influenced by the writings of the late Bill Jordan. As such, double-action shooting (and mastering the...

Are the old magna grips comfortable on j frames?

If one orders the Dymondwood Service Grips from Smith & Wesson, the fit on your revolver might be similar to that shown in the following photographs. S&W Model 637 S&W 686-6 Plus I have no discomfort using standard .38 Special loads in either gun, but +P or full power .357 loads (only for...

    s&w model 686 for ccw

Now that winter is approaching..... As my forum name suggests, I'm a relatively small statured man. I normally carry a Colt New Agent 3" barreled 1911. But I started on revolvers, and have loved them since my first S&W Model 36 in 1970. A Model 637 shares time with the Colt, but my 686 Plus...

Texas Concealed Handgun Law Jeff, Since it appears, from your post, that you do not yet have a Texas Concealed Handgun License, I will post a link to the applicable law. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/tchlaws0102.pdf Your impressions are, for the most part...

    686 Advice With Wooden Grips?

The photo below is my Model 686-6 Plus (3 inch barrel) with Eagle Grips "Secret Service" smooth stocks. These are much more concealable than the issued rubber grips, but admittedly present more difficulty in grasping the weapon during rapid fire. Since the weather is turning so hot here in...

    S&W Silhouette holster

Nevadadvx, This photograph shows a right hand Silhouette holster with the S&W Model 686-6 Plus, with a three inch barrel. This holster is made for Smith & Wesson by Galco. It is a well made holster, and fits the weapon very tightly. However, the shorter barrel on my revolver causes the grip...

    Great Smith & Wesson service

LSG Manufacturing In August of 2007 I purchased a new S&W 686-6 Plus. I was getting inconsistent firing pin strikes, resulting in multiple failures to fire. Living relatively close to Comanche, TX., I called Frank Smith at LSG Manufacturing (an authorized Smith & Wesson Warranty Center)...

    5-shot, 6-shot, 7-shot

I've got to agree with you on this part of your post. I put the Eagle Grips Secret Service stocks on my 686-6 Plus for concealment. These are very nice stocks, but the factory supplied Uncle Mike's are SO much better. AND, much more comfortable when shooting .357 Magnum ammo!

Hearing Protection In Home Defense Situation

Forty-one years of railroading plus a few bird hunts without hearing protection has resulted in my having severe tinnitus. Not so bad that I can't sleep, but constant ringing, nonetheless. I don't bird hunt anymore (just don't enjoy it like I used to), and I always wear hearing protection when...

    sw 637

I mostly shoot Winchester .38 Special target loads in mine, but since I do carry +P rounds in the gun for personal defense, I shoot enough of those to remain proficient. This practice hasn't hurt the revolver at all.

New 686 Plus trigger and lockup problem

LSG Manufacturing When I bought this Model 686-6 Plus, it had numerous failure to fire issues. I called Frank Smith at LSG Manufacturing (a Smith & Wesson Warranty Repair facility in Comanche, TX), and then took the pistol to him. He worked the action a couple of times, knew what the...

What is the best 686 version?

While I am no great fan of the locking system on new Smith & Wessons, the only way for me to get a brand new version, with the factory warranty, was to purchase this Model 686-6 Plus, with my favorite barrel length. 3 inches! Shown with Eagle Grips' Secret Service stocks and a Kramer...

    Holster for S&W 686 Plus - 3" Barrel

Kramer Horsehide Scabbard This is a pancake-style holster made for the Model 686 Plus with the 3 inch barrel. This photo shows the revolver in the holster, from the reverse side. There is also the Galco Silhouette holster for those who don't mind part of the barrel being exposed.

    Favorite 357 carry gun?

As others have mentioned, colder weather allows me the opportunity to carry the S&W Model 686-6 Plus with the 3 inch barrel. This is one of my all-time favorite handguns, and I've owned a bunch of them in the past 39 years. The stocks are Eagle Grips Secret Service rosewood, and the holster is...

    J-Frame on the ankle

I carry my J-frame Model 637 in an Uncle Mike's inside-the-waistband nylon holster. I clip the rig on my inside left roper boot, where it is quite secure. I primarily use this arrangement when it is hot, and a covering garment for my waistband carry would be uncomfortable and impractical.
