    Random Object Photographs

Reasonably common sight around here. Pretty decent ride decked out with a cattle (deer) guard. Car was relatively new when this shot was taken several years ago. I'd estimate over half the vehicles in our county over three years old have deer scars - more than that have hail damage.

End of the line for this old truck 1969 F100

She sure looks to be broke-in. A sad day but she'll live again in other vehicles perhaps. Bryan

    "Once Fired Brass"

I haven't shot on a public range in many years opting instead for the range my son and I constructed at our place. I'd agree that it would be relatively easy to fool somebody into thinking I'm shooting factory stuff. If I clean the brass with stainless steel pins, sort by headstamp, and pack...

I give up on Deli meat

Our tap water is pretty abysmal but I finally got around to doing something about it. (Full disclosure-I still think it's nothing short of a miracle that "safe" water comes out of my house taps. Same for electricity at the flick of a switch.) Finally installed a water softener (new appliances...

    "Once Fired Brass"

I occasionally order some "range brass" online and it's almost always advertised as "once-fired mixed brass." I'm guessing the common source is ranges that sweep up every now and then so mixed headstamps are expected. Generally a good deal if you're not desperate and can be patient for decent...

    Hey!, California...Hold my beer!

Born in Illinois I am a native Illinoian. Southwestern Illinois, as far from Chicago as one can be and still be from the same state. Moved back to Illinois after North Carolina and Florida in the late 80s and lived in a Northwest Chicago 'burb and quite enjoyed being close to Chi-town. Great...

Last WWII Triple Ace Passes Away

Bud Anderson passed away May 17, at 102 years. An absolutely amazing career and an amazing man. Likely many forum members know of him. They shall not pass this way again. Fighter pilot Bud Anderson, the last of the WWII triple aces, dies at 102 | Stars and Stripes

    Lost a fur friend

My condolences and my heart goes out to you. I've buried three in the last three months - all long-time residents of our household. We're down to four, which turns out to be a good number. When we lived in Austin we fed as many as 14 at a time for a while. Nothing like living in a college...

Need Help to ID these 3 airline flatware logo's

I only see two logos. The stylized "W" is Western Airlines, out of business since 1987. The other stylized "bird" is Lufthansa, the flag carrier of Germany. Bryan

Observations on a high school prize giving

We recently experienced the "cycle" of end of the year banquets at the local high school. For the most part it's rewarding to recognize and support the youth of our fine community and the kids seem to appreciate the support. The band awards banquet was outstanding with great food (really good...

    David Sanborn RIP

Jeff Beck and David Sanborn in one stretch. Wow. Two giants of the genre and now heaven has the best fusion band one can imagine. Bryan

It seems that the richer you are...

It's not farts! Hate to belabor the point as it is popular, off-color, and gross, all things men generally like - but bovine methane does NOT come from cow farts. The vast majority of it is belched through the mouth from the rumen chamber, the first of the multi-chambered stomachs of cattle...

    Important Anniversary Yesterday

Thanks for that! In fairness she sits next to him in the band and also plays clarinet so she likely has a natural appreciation for the axe. She is a lovely young lady and a fine player as well.

    Important Anniversary Yesterday

Roy Clark. One of my all-time heroes. If it had strings he was counted among the virtuosos. An absolutely amazing, and under-appreciated, musician.

    Important Anniversary Yesterday

Mel Bay taught me how to play guitar too. At about the same time as you! I get the feeling from your posts Mel's lessons took more root and lasted a bit longer with you! I was always a choir guy and still am. Bryan

    Random Object Photographs

I appreciate your reply. It's just a random photograph and really wasn't meant to spark debate but what the heck. I live in a county that is wall to wall with the things and they all got here after I did - full disclosure. There is a "solution" for recycling that involves mulching the...

At Galveston Recently Galveston, TX. Load of wind turbine blades. I believe the country of origin is Denmark. Soon to be trucked inland, erected, in the breeze for 20 years, and buried in a Texas landfill. What a racket.

    Thoughts on drug cost.

Perhaps a Different Perspective What is costs to "make the stuff," is actually a very small fraction of the real cost of a pharmaceutical. Full disclosure; I was a state government affairs director for a very large pharma company for lots of years. I am not a lawyer but some of us with tech...

Curious about the Lee Perfect Powder Measure

I have three Lee brand powder measures, including the Lee Perfect, which was my first and only for quite a while. I had zero problems with it - ever. It makes trips back and forth to the ranch where it is used to handload "on-site" for tweaking load development for fodder mostly coming from my...
