1950 44 Target 5 inch, authenticity letter arrived!

If I recall correctly Skeeter Skelton said he had his first 1950 pre 24 cut down to 5”, probably by the factory. Maybe one of you here who owns a 5 incher owns that very gun. But there’s probably no way to ever really know.

A strange Twilight Zone style thought about “The Searchers” and “Red River”

Good point. I didn’t take it that far. Those movies were set a little later but John Wayne could have been hanging around those towns in the late 1860s to be encountered by “The Searchers” John Wayne. Notice how I try to apply logic to all this.

A strange Twilight Zone style thought about “The Searchers” and “Red River”

Long ago when watching one of those films for the 100th time I had a weird thought. What if this happened. It’s post Civil War and John Wayne and Jeffrey Hunter are traveling through Texas searching for Natalie Wood. Say they see a massive cattle herd in the distance and of course approach them...

Craigslist K frame Diamond grips. What years are they?

Here’s the 1957 pair on my mid 50s pre Model 10, and the 1960 on my 1962 Model 18-2. I think they look great.

Was looking for moodel 28 found this 13-2

Yes. At first I thought the grips would probably feel great but look weird with the round butt clearly visible from the rear. Then I saw it was a square butt. Pretty interesting. I like it being 3” but with a square butt.

Craigslist K frame Diamond grips. What years are they?

Do you mean the pair on the left with rounded edges is ‘57 and the flat bottom pair on the right is 1960, or Vice versa? That’s probably a dumb question but I don’t know if the grips came off different model guns where the higher serial # grips might be from a different, and earlier model gun.

Craigslist K frame Diamond grips. What years are they?

OK, I got them in good light. The ones with rounded bottom edges is #408120, the flat bottom set is #316494.

Craigslist K frame Diamond grips. What years are they?

I just got these two pairs of Diamond K frame grips on Craigslist. The seller said the square bottom ones (serial # 316494) on the right was 1958, the left ones ( #408120).1961. Hope I didn’t get that reversed. While one set is pictured on my 19-4 I intend to put one pair on my 1962 18-2 and the...

    Model 39-2 Worth ?

When I saw the title I thought, I hope it's nickel! I'd get another, most likely blue because they are common, as a shooter and do everything possible to keep this one pristine. About ten years ago I saw a 39-2 listed locally and said, "I hope it's nickel" knowing it wouldn't be. It was! I added...

What’s your most bizarre or unusual gun trade?

In 1984 I bought a 4” SfW Model 34 .22 in my favorite pawn shop for $169. I shot it, took it camping, then the shop called saying they needed it back as it was stolen. But they gave me $450 credit in the place. I instantly chose the 1966 Colt factory nickel 4 3/4” .357 they had at that exact...

What’s your most bizarre or unusual gun trade?

Here’s mine. In the late 80s I was driving through gold rush country and in an antique shop bought two NOS 60s kid’s lunch boxes. So new there was tissue paper in the thermoses. They were “The Wild, Wild West, and “Land Of The Giants”. $15 each. A few years later a guy at work, Jim, wanted them...

    Custom Leathersmiths on the Forum

About a year ago I was asked to make a Bowie knife sheath with a shoulder strap for someone who I think was into mountain man era gear and guns. I said it reminded me of one Sam Elliott wore in The Sacketts and another movie. he said that’s exactly what inspired it. I had full creative license...

Shooting New Model #3 Target Revolvers

I shoot smokeless loads in my New Model 3 Target Model, but it was converted to .22 by a very ingenious 1920s mechanic/blacksmith for a California railroad. I've only shot the gun a couple times but the tiny sights were horrible for me as you can see from the target. I just could not see them...

This is how you spend 2 hours and ruin $100 grips

I like them better now. Getting JM to sign them would I think make them more personally associated to him. But don’t fret. Before knowing better over 20 years ago I sanded down a set of checkered Python grips. I later found out I turned around $250 or more grips I paid $7 for into grips worth...

    S&W Number 3 44 Russian

That great looking gun appears to have a barrel slightly longer than usual or is that just my imagination? My only NM 3 is a target model converted to .22 in the 20s and it has a muzzle extension. this gun kind of looks as long as my gun.
