Picture of barrel muzzle on 617 needed

NED, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! BTW, did you consider countersinking muzzle side of the bore, to prevent nicking the edge?

Picture of barrel muzzle on 617 needed

I would need your help; if somebody has S&W Model 617, would you please make a nice snapshot of the barrel muzzle, as perpendicular as possible. Something similar to the photo attached. I came to conclusion that I need a nice DA revolver in 22LR, and consider Model 617, 6", as a my best bang...

Did they ever make 6" like Moo's?

686-6 Target Champion - German Gunporn

Look if you can find an Argentinian 9x19 ammo. I have no idea what is the brand, will ask friend. He told me that he never tried more powerful 9x19, and it's very accurate. However, he said that pistol must be sturdy!

Any 6" Model 19 or 66 without barrel cut, relief?

I know for 686. As a matter of fact, I just sold 686-3, 6" barrel. Too heavy for my taste. If there is a revolver in 357 Magnum I would like to have, it's 686, with same hammer as on 686 Target Champion, and 6" barrel configuration as on Model 27. Unfortunately, there is nothing like that. That...

686-6 Target Champion - German Gunporn

Excellent, congratulation! Regarding polygonal barrel, I am ware that it is superb with jacketed bullets, but how it shoots cast bullets?

Any 6" Model 19 or 66 without barrel cut, relief?

I am just little familiar with S&W revolvers, so I need your help. Is any Model 19 or 66, dash number, 6” barrel, that is without that flat cut, relief, on bottom of aft side of the barrel? See article How To Avoid Revolver Forcing Cone Failure | An NRA Shooting Sports Journal . I found on...

    Can you identify this revolver?

Seems to me that earlier S&W revolvers had beefier and better fitted ejector rod, that consequently made cylinder/crane assembly better, more solid lock-up in the frame, than later designs.

    S&W 657-3,-4 and Endurance Package

Thank you Sir for this crucial information. As a matter of fact, I never heard about problems in 57/657 revolvers, that models 29/629 have with heavy loads. But, it's nice to hear that S&W decided to do full Endurance Package on 57/657 models.

    S&W 657-3,-4 and Endurance Package

Thanks DR505 for the link. Now I know more about that Endurance Package. From what I learned before, part of it are harder frame and crane, so with my shooting, and if I decide to use full power loads occasionally, bit stiffer spring for cylinder latch should be sufficient. So, on the end...

    S&W 657-3,-4 and Endurance Package

I will shoot that 657 considerably, 210-220 grains at about 1150-1200 fps, on half scale silhouettes (25, 50, 75 and 100 meters). It will be a nice ta have complete Endurance Package on it.

686 Grips for those who are recoil adverse.

I am so sorry to hear that! If recoil is the issue, even with 38 Special loads, I would suggest try one of Ruger Bisley revolvers in 357 Magnum, large frame, or bit smaller Flattop. IMO, for the same weight and round, perceived recoil is about 1/3 less in revolver with Bisley grip.

    S&W 657-3,-4 and Endurance Package

On another forum I posted a picture of a cylinder with elongated indexing slot on N-frame, and made statement (now removed), that all N-frame revolvers with such cylinder have Endurance Package. Another gentleman corrected me: "They don't necessarily have the full-blown endurance package, just...

Smith & Wesson 686; firing pin protrusion

Helping friend. He would like to know what would be the correct firing pin protrusion on 686-3 Target Champion. After searching few forums, I found that forum members recommend protrusion from .050"-.053" to .055"-.060". What would be factory standard? Unfortunately, I do not have J...

    My first BIG one

Thanks for correction folks. Found that -2E dash number is for M629, not M29. More info here: John Taffin Smith & Wesson's .44 Magnum "In 1988, the 29-4 was ushered in with two changes. The retention system on the yoke or cylinder crane was strengthened and studs within the frame were...

    My first BIG one

I am confused with Jim's M29-3. From what I learned, all M29 revolvers with dash number -2E and up have so called "Endurance package". Part of it is cylinder with elongated bolt notch, like shown on attached picture bellow. Jim's M29-3 shown does not have such cylinder, but rather older design...

New or used s&w m29? Bucket list

Here is my .2 cents; if I am on the market for 44 Magnum S&W, my absolutely top choice would be M29/629-3 or -4, Classic DX, period! With DX models you are getting the most accurate S&W-s ever, tested in factory for accuracy and making 1,5" on 50 yards. Only those receive DX marking. With...

What Ammunition For 1916 Mk II .455 Eley

Hera are two interesting posts: When you look at those numbers, there is potential problem for reloader. If solid base bullet .454 dia or less, is used in 455 S&W, it will be undersized, not good for accuracy. With 455 Webley revolvers, things are opposite, their cylinders are usually...

    Why Masterpiece

My experience with S&W revolvers is limited (617, 29, 27, one of each), knowledge also, so I would appreciate if somebody could explain me few things about K-models. I am considering one 38 Special, but before jumping, I would like to know bit more. First, when K-38 leaves the factory, does...
