On another forum I posted a picture of a cylinder with elongated indexing slot on N-frame, and made statement (now removed), that all N-frame revolvers with such cylinder have Endurance Package.

Another gentleman corrected me: "They don't necessarily have the full-blown endurance package, just some of it. The 25-9 in .45 Colt only has the longer stop notches and corresponding bolt...but not the rest of the package, such as the bolt-block."

Since I am considering 657-3 or -4, I would like to now has this model full Endurance Package as 29/629.

Thanks

P.S. BTW, how to make pictures to appear within text in the post, not just as an attachment?

Seems to me that the lengthened stop notches were part of S&W's final endurance package. I'm not sure how important the endurance package is with the 41 Magnum.

I will shoot that 657 considerably, 210-220 grains at about 1150-1200 fps, on half scale silhouettes (25, 50, 75 and 100 meters). It will be a nice ta have complete Endurance Package on it.

Considering factory 41 Magnum ammo with bullets of that weight typically produce about 150 fps more than what you plan to use, I seriously doubt the endurance package is going to be of a benefit. The 41 Magnum, even when reloaded to its full potential, still produces almost 10% less energy than comparable 44 Magnum loads.

Hey Onty, sorry I didn't reply over at the other discussion board. Take a look at this thread and it gives you an idea of what the Model 29 has. It is not needed in the Model 57 and more moving parts is not always a good thing in a revolver.

MODEL 25 QUESTION

Thanks DR505 for the link. Now I know more about that Endurance Package. From what I learned before, part of it are harder frame and crane, so with my shooting, and if I decide to use full power loads occasionally, bit stiffer spring for cylinder latch should be sufficient.

So, on the end, just to make it clear: 657 -3 and up, with Endurance Package doesn't have all parts and modifications as 29/629!?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Exactly that. S&W won't add extra time, parts, or expense where unneeded.

Off the top of my head I don't know when S&W started adding the full Endurance features to the 41 Magnums but if DR505 is implying that S&W does not currently add the full package to them, as a matter of course, then I'll disagree.

The bolt block feature is the one S&W currently does not always include in all of the revolvers that also have the longer cylinder stop notches.

All of my current S&W 41 Magnums DO have the bolt block feature installed in them.

Unlike in the lower power 45 Colt models it is warranted in the 41 Magnums.

Thank you Sir for this crucial information. As a matter of fact, I never heard about problems in 57/657 revolvers, that models 29/629 have with heavy loads. But, it's nice to hear that S&W decided to do full Endurance Package on 57/657 models.

I forgot to answer this; you need to have a photo hosting website to upload your pictures to. Then each picture will have a unique link assigned to it that will display the picture when it's embedded in a post.

Some hosting sites are free & some are pay-for-use.

.

PS: You can also create a personal photo album here on the Forum & basically do the same thing but the space is limited (IMO) & from what I see it's only available to members who donate with each donation level receiving more storage memory.
