Good things come to those who wait, and wait and wait......

Congrats and welcome back to the addiction! You picked a good time to come back as the iL era slowly closes. The new Lipseys Mountain gun series are definately cool. The brass bead fs insert, what appears to be real rollstamps , flash chromed hammer trigger (and of course no iL) are very nice...

    K38 Masterpiece info

Looked in my notes but unfortunately I never tracked the 6" K38 benchmarks. I do have a note that the very first wide rib K38 reached the shipping room in Feb of 1949 but that might have been a special order item, IIRC the wide rib weight matched K38 first appeared as a standard item in the...

New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

After thinking about it some more I was going,.... I bet somebody wanted a .357 Jovino to go with his .45 Acp Jovino.

    K38 Masterpiece info

You have to remember that although the 6" wide rib K38 did supplement at first and then supplant the 6" narrow rib K38 the narrow rib continued in production in the 4" Combat Masterpiece with 2" less barrel (except the snub 15's which had the wide rib barrel) and a Baughman fs blade on long ramp...

New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

Depending on how many digits are after the N548 could be late 60's to 1980 if 6 digits IIRC. Either way the K Magnum snub was either out a few years or 10 years by then so a Jovino .357 snub wouldnt make much sense when a factory 19-2, 19-3 snub existed in the late 60's and the 66, 66-1 snub...

New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

Im curious how early that your 28-2 serial is ? The 19-2 snub had a small test run in the early 60's but became a standard item by sometime in the the mid late 60's. If someone put the time and effort prior to the 19-2 snub I get it but after the snub 19-2 became avaialble a snub N frame .357...

Centennial Airweight/Model 42 - when did the thumbpiece and grips change?

Whie I do not know the change dates it was a little more complex than that, There were around 3 or so variations of the flat latch cylinder release and the Centennial was introduced during the first style. Another interesting thing is the early High horn stocks have a smaller washer inside and...

    K38 Masterpiece info

I should have said they moved from satin to bright blue sometime around 1954/1955 not "by 1954".

    K38 Masterpiece info

If the stocks on your gun are pristine (they look great to me but cant tell if checkering is sharp from pics) alone they are worth $150-200 . A shooter grade K38 6" depending on mechanical condition and cosmetics maybe $500-600 for gun alone. Many would buy it just for the stocks.

    K38 Masterpiece info

The "Heavy" Masterpiece has an interesting back story, the narrow rib K38,K32,K22 were reintroduced after WW2 with the same narrow rib barrels but the larger the bore the lighter the gun. The wide Heavy rib was the way they added weight to the K38 to get it closer to the K22. Although IIRC it...

    K38 Masterpiece info

Very nice revolver Only thing I'd add is that there were two 6" versions available in 1952 the earlier narrow rib version aka the 6" K38 Masterpiece and the weight matched wide rib version (like yours) aka the 6" K38 "Heavy" Masterpiece.

    Pre 29 4 inch Nickel 1957

Very nice ! Yours has the 2nd highest four inch 5 screw serial in my database to date. Ps, Id think the nickel was done by SW solely based on the fact that they removed the fs ramp to do it. A local gunsmith probably would have nickeled the ramp and redid the insert but thats just speculation.

    History Help Please

Everything looks correct except the rear sight slide, Normally you dont see a white outline slide from the factory without a red ramp insert, The white looks new and bright white where old ones tend to age and appear more cream colored, The blade height looks a bit tall too ( is it shooting...

    An Old War Horse....

Love the story and the revolver! Wondering if the high shoulder Magnas are nickel coated brass? The hammer profile and ejector rod shroud shapes are very interesting on the early ones.

    History Help Please

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your 19-3. The 19-3 was available in three standard lengths, 2.5" , 4" and 6". (There were a handful of 3" and 5" but they are rare) The 19-3's were made from around 1968 to 1976 and were offered in polished bright blue or shiney nickel finish, the Stainless...

    Checkered Walnut Service Stocks?

Service stocks are the shorter pre war style. Yours are PC Magnas from the 70's to 80s era. If you google Smith 681 alot are wearing the same PC Magnas, Dont think its a coincidence so bet they shipped standard on the 681.

Early .22 Outdoorsman with neat grip adapter

Very nice grip adapter. The shape looks alot like the aluminum post war ones , wonder if yours inspired them to use that shape. The early K22 OD's are easy to spot because they have a single rear elevation screw with no set screw. Im guessing your gold bead fs was special order, perhaps the...

    6906 revived

Interesting , The one Id be interested in if brought back would be the SS 9mm version of the Model 52 aka the PC 952, those had the old style wood grip panels too like the Model 39/439/539/639
