    "New York" trigger

the New York police seems to be accumulating a lot of civilian casualties. Maybe they should go back to revolvers AND LOTS OF TRAINING! That 8 lb. trigger ain't doing the job! Safety is in the mind! Not a heavy trigger pull.

Need suggestions for a 40 S&W load recipe

.40 S&W Load My favorite load is the Nosler 150 gr. JHP and 7.8 gr. of Longshot. Hodgdon has good info for reloading on their web site. I like Longshot for a lot of my loads. My .45 ACP load is a Nosler 185 gr. JHP and 7.8 gr. of Longshot. Same powder and both loads are tack drivers!

    18-4 misfires

Try turning the cartridge case 180 degrees. It's usually a lack of primer in the case. Priming compound is often unevenly distributed around the rim.

Got my 617 back from S&W today!

I've found that MOST failure to fire's comes from poor priming distribution. By turning the case in the cylinder, the bullet invariably fires. It is NOT the gun's fault.

Smith 18 red ramp front sight?

They were offered as an option. As were everything imaginable. Target trigger, target hammer, target stocks, gold bead front sight, whatever you wanted. I was stationed at Westover AFB in the late '50's and early 60's. I visited the factory many times.

Where should I send my 629 to have the action / trigger smoothed out?

Dry fire it a bunch! The action will smooth out and you'll build the necessary strength in your gun hand/trigger finger. A lot of times, the "jerky - rough" feel is because your finger hasn't acquired the strength required. Check some of the "old" smith & Wesson revolvers and feel how SMOOTH...

    New S&W revolvers vs. Old.

We keep hearing about the superior steel used in the "new" Smith's, yet the pressure in the old .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum (plus Keith's loads) were all greater than current loads of those cartridges. Just a random thought, since all of mine are "old" Smith's. And I NEVER heard of a Smith &...
