My Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Perfected Model top-break revolver

I have always wondered why the Perfected (and the 1891 single action) were .38 S&W only. I guess they did not see a market for a six shot .32 of that type, although the .32 Hand Ejectors certainly sold well.

Dragons Breath 12 Gauge Incendiary Rounds

The Dragon's Breath I tried a good many years ago would ignite the shredded paper of a target backer at several yards distance.

    Need Some Help with "Puzzle"

The stocks are in good condition and would likely be worth a bit of money.

Really getting tired of other people's entitlement attitudes.

A friend was annoyed by people trying to buy his car, which was a popular model to dress up in a certain style. He later said he wished he had sold to one of them.

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

Well, in strict modern SAAMI nomenclature, but ballistically the .38 HV sure was.

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

I have read, sorry, no literature cite, that SuperVel used a slightly undersize bullet to get down the barrel faster. I read that at one time the 110 gr CorBon was very hot loaded but that upon publication of the article, they dialed it back to mere +P.

.38 Special Ammo Velocity Comparisons: Historical vs. Modern

Since that is just precisely bass ackward, what are we to take the rest of this stuff to mean? The standard PV test barrel for .38 Special is 7.7 inches. The vented PV barrel has a 1.6" chamber to simulate a revolver cylinder, an .008" gap, and a 4" rifled barrel. It does not show up in my...

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

And I don't try. There are times and places were I cruise in the left lane, but I do look in the mirror and get out of the way of somebody gaining on me. Could we get back to something important like the difference between a "clip" and a "magazine."? This traffic cop stuff is getting old.

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

It has been a while, but I have done that to let a tailgater by. Not for his convenience but so he didn't get excited or mad and run into me.

    Something oddly jarring tonight

I have an interesting garbage/recycling setup here. A garbage truck goes by every Tuesday morning. But it doesn't stop, it goes on to another street. My garbage truck comes by Wednesday morning, followed by the recycle truck later in the morning. But today, the next door neighbors have put...

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

I understand that there is a law on which lane to use. There is also a law on how fast you can go. Nobody seems to care about that one as long as they don't get a speeding ticket. Get close to the big city and the highway goes to six lanes. Maybe it is just me, but I dislike traveling in the...

Which 66 (No Dash) is the better gun?

First gun looks like real Magnaporting which is a reputable outfit. Looks like its trigger has been rounded off a bit, Magnaport also does action work. See below. Second gun has had the trigger rounded off for double action comfort. I would wonder about what might have been done to the action...

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

I think the highway engineers call that "statistical clustering" and a rational reason is going to be hard to find.

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

I don't try to stop speeders, I just wonder why one law is important and the other one isn't. Most of my 4+ lane driving these days is on what you might call urban expressways, and ALL the lanes are well traveled.

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

Oh, so right lane is a law, the speed limit is arbitrary and you may drive at a comfortable speed. "Keeping up with traffic" used to be a common whine by the ticketed. If somebody is driving faster than the speed limit he is committing a crime, give him a ticket. If somebody is driving less...

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

That is known as a "brake check" and there are ample dashcam videos of it leading to wrecks and fights. If I am doing the speed limit, why does it matter which lane I am in and why do you need to pass me? Unless an emergency vehicle, of course. Drives me nuts that people will come to a stop...

Mini Rant - Drive right, pass left!!

If the highway department would keep the right lane in better shape, I wouldn't be tempted to drive in the left. There is a stretch of highway and a time of day that I will drive in the left lane unless somebody is gaining on me. An extra eight feet away from the shoulder and deer, dogs...

Reloading a Winchester Model 1873 chambered in 357/38

The 1873 is OAL sensitive, a round slides back into the lifter, it lifts in line with the chamber. Too long and it won't rise, too short, the next round will start into the lifter and lock it. If you want to shoot .45 Cowboy - rim of LC, length of ACP - in a 73 .45 Colt, there is a replacement...

Reloading a Winchester Model 1873 chambered in 357/38

I have seen listings of bullets made to load Special brass to Magnum OAL for cheap shooting in lever actions.

Reloading a Winchester Model 1873 chambered in 357/38

I am surprised to see a .44 Magnum 1873 repro. At least in Europe they have to pass proof at 130%.
