While a J frame is easier to carry I'm for the 6 shot K frame with a 2 - 3 inch barrel. They are slightly bulkier than the J frame but the trigger pulls are much better. The J frames I have tried in the last 20 years were terrible to say the least.

You may want to consider one in stainless steel. They resist rust better than the blued ones. You may be able to find a used S&W 66 at a reasonable price. If not a Ruger BlackHawk or Vaquero may fit the bill nicely. There seems to a endless amount of choices in the 357 arena. Enjoy the search.

I have a 4 inch model 28-2 so a 3 1/2 inch 27 would not be to difficult. The only problem might be finding a holster specifically for the 3 1/2 inch barrel. That said I would love a 3 1/2 inch 27.

Considering the 3 inchers are somewhat prized I would say you did excellent. I bought the same model about 12 years ago for $375 and it only came with extra grips.
