    5.56 x 45 mm ammo

bigggbbruce beat me to it. LAP designates Light Armor Piercing. Since they are steel core bullets many ranges prohibit them, as well as being a fire hazard from sparks when shooting away from ranges.

38 Spl., 145 gr. Hitek lead RN bullet with Titegroup, load information

OP, Go back to post 9, Reloader Fred, first paragraph. He is exactly right! As long as you are shooting a cast or plated bullet it makes no difference what the lube or coating is, and very little difference if it is jacketed. Maker and exact bullet style makes very little difference either. Just...

New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

Since a Model 28 was strictly a .357, and the gun is still a .357, why would anyone wonder if the barrel had been sleeved??? STCM, Why did you make this comment: "All this shooting at balloons and such is all hog wash... 2" revolvers were made for close up where you don't aim but instinct shoot...

Need help with 10-7 revolver, cannot load shells.

Based on OPs description is it possible his revolver has had the extractor replaced with one from a .32 caliber K-frame. A photo of the rear of the cylinder with extractor installed will quickly settle this as the radius of the cuts in the extractor and charge holes will be obviously different...

    S&W 10-7

Model 10-7 should be 1977 or later and have the standard (tapered) barrel. Specific dash numbers generally are produced for several years and may run currently with other dash numbers. This is why the SN is needed to give you a closer date. Value depends on finish and condition. It could vary...

Not to beat a dead horse......

If you really want to know, with the triple-alpha SNs if you call S&W at 800-331-0852 they can tell you the exact date of manufacture. Otherwise what you have been told above are estimates of shipping year only.

    .380 / 9mm

Jimmy, If you are really curious about 9mm cartridges check this Wikipedia post! :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_mm_caliber You will see that virtually all "9mm" cartridges use bullets from .355" to .357", with a few notable outliers like 9mm Makarov.

    5 screw S&W K frame LOCKING BOLT

How did we get from "locking bolt" to "bolt", to "cylinder stop"? And people criticize me for being a stickler for proper nomenclature!

    Stubborn K Frame Sideplate

Strike the frame harder, use a screwdriver handle. Sometimes you need to hit it 2-3 times!

Wadcutter target load in 357 brass?

To get close to .38 Spl. velocities when using .357 brass you need to increase the .38 load by 10-11%, not just 1/10 grain, to account for the larger case. For example, with the basically standard, old load of 2.8 gr/Bullseye/148 WC this would be 3.0-3.1 gr. Bullseye. It makes no difference if...

    357mag load

The original factory load for the .357 Magnum was basically what you are shooting, but the charge was 15.3 Gr./2400! So 14.0 is well under maximum. Your 12 gr. load is just a bit more than the original .38-44 load for the .38-44 Heavy Duty revolver that pre-dated the original .357 Magnum My...

    Checkered Walnut Service Stocks?

Those are P.C. aka Plain Clothes Magnas. They could have come from any K or L frame revolver. They usually were installed on fixed sight snub nose guns, so if your 681 is a 2 1/2", possibly.

Do you have a belt that looks like this ?

The belt I am wearing will come up to any of three different holes depending on whether I have recently eaten, been to the bathroom, or just how hard I might pull it at the time. Holes are spaced 3/4".

    Model 39 prototype magazine??

Definitely not a M-39 magazine, and not even a S&W magazine with that style of floor plate and the magazine sidewalls bent in to retain the floor plate. The only thing even similar to a M-39 magazine is the X-follower.

    5 screw S&W K frame LOCKING BOLT

The current bolt should work too.

    Frame-barrel gap

That is deliberate on guns with extractor rod shrouds. It is done so the shroud does not drag on the frame and severely damage the finish on the frame when the barrel is installed. Some have a larger gap than others!
