OK, sounds like it was the 386, not a 686. I had always thought that the 686 was only stainless as well. I guess I read the number wrong. I appreciate the help! Any comments on the 386? Todd

At the gunshop today I found a 686 that appeared to be a lightweight or Airweight model. It had a 1.5 or 2" barrel and I think it was marked 686sc/c or something similar. I can't find it on the SW website. Can anyone give me information on it? It was a 7 shot model. Todd

Here in Texas, the price would probably be around $450 or so. I bought one from Gander Mountain, used but in great shape, also with the short barrel, for $350, but that was a heck of a deal. I have seen them from $400-450 at gun shows. Todd

I have not shot the 627 although it does appear to be a very nice revolver. I do own a 4" 686-3 and it is just about the perfect revolver as far as I am concerend. I put a nice set of wood grips on it and it is now my go-to woods gun. Todd

Retention is very good. Although it seems bulky, the fact that it is wide means that it spreads the holster out over alarger area, and makes it more comfortable. It's hard to explain, but if you get the holster, I believe you will understand. One word of advice, either put some blue locktite...
