10-7 2" I talked to the original owner today. He did the modification to the backstrap and grips. It is an excellent job. I put a pair of Pachmayr grips on it and they work great. I think I still got a bargain!

I just acquired this S&W 10-7 with a 2" Barrel. It has matching grips, very tight lockup and no end play. I have a question, Is this the round butt? I tried installing the modern S&W round series grips but they won't fit. A Pachmayr square will fit. Thanks for your help. PS ---- I paid $300...

Factory Nickel Finish Thanks for all the replies. I must be getting old, the serial is on my 1905 cylinder and a Model 19 has the "N" on the cylinder face. I did find an "N" stamp on the cylinder, under the extractor star on my 10-5 and also on the left side of grip frame and on barrel flat...

Am looking at a S&W 10-5 5" nickel plated. The cylinder does not have an "N" stamped on its face. Also no serial number stamped on cylinder. Does this mean it is not the original finish? Did they stop stamping the cylinder with serial and "N". Thanks.
