    model 15-1,shipped in 1961

congrats...i have a 15-2, just got it a week ago, and it has become my favorite...the 15 is fun to shoot, economical to reload for, and its easy accuracy endears you to the gun immediately...i love it.

    sideplate fit question.

thank you very much, alk... as charlie brown would exclaim, "thats it!" it was the vertical slot in the sideplate that had me worried. to the untrained eye (me) it looks like a pretty big crack in the sideplate. that's what i meant when i mentioned a rectangular cutout in the sideplate...

    sideplate fit question.

before i get too crazy, i'll take a look at some older smiths and then maybe to a smith to look at it and see what he says. the outside sideplate fit looks perfect to me, i'm hesitant to show a pic 'cause this camera really sucks, but here goes. btw, the gun does shoot really well with...

    sideplate fit question.

thanks diamondback, i'll definitely have someone who knows what they're looking at examine the revolver before shooting it again. well, if anything, i supplied a service to the forum for one more thing to look at when buying a used revolver...i would've never noticed this in a million years...

    sideplate fit question.

no, those are snap caps. and, yes, the sideplate screws are snug. oh, well, there it is. at some time in the past someone took off the sideplate and buggered it up. will this effect the function of the revolver? and if this were your gun would you bring it back to where you got it and...

    sideplate fit question.

i guess what i'm asking is, on the inside of the hammer well where the sideplate and frame meet is the sideplate suppossed to flush both to the frame cutout and to the back of the recoil sheild? if it is , then my 15-2 sideplate has a crack. if it is a crack, will it hurt the function of the...

    sideplate fit question.

thanks for the reply diamondback, looking closely at the upper inside of the frame where the right side of the hammer rides, you can see a half moon gap or crack between the sideplate and frame...also the sideplate below the gap dosn't attach to the back of the recoil shield but leaves a...

    sideplate fit question.

hey guys, just purchased a s&w model 15-2 last weekend. i took off the grips and cleaned her up for the first time today. when cleaning i noticed a rather large gap between the side plate and frame inside the gun where the hammer rests. is this normal? or is it suppossed to be snug like on...

    my new model 15

the only blemish is something i've never seen before on a revolver. there is a thin filament that runs in a very thin groove at the front of each chamber...on one of the chambers this filament is sticking straight up out of its groove a good quarter inch or so. i originally thought it was just...

    my new model 15

been away from the site for awhile...had to sell all my guns for some pressing financial issues...but now that we have our heads above water again, i went out and purchased this sweet model 15 today... it really does look brand new...it's a 15-2, from 1966 i think. i've had a few older smith...

    reloading for 686

thanks for the great info! I tried Winchester WSF for the first time today and really like it...4.0 grains with a 158 grain SWC is crazy accurate. My favorite powder is Clays and the WSF is just as accurate and just as clean as clays...and with minimal recoil. There's not alot of info out...

    help choosing .38spl bullet

I love mastercast bullets...clean, accurate, and relatively cheap...158 grain SWC's @ 1000 for around $55.00 shipped. I use clays or WSF and they both shoot clean.

hOW HARD IS IT FOR A LAYMAN TO REMOVE THE SIDE PLATE?

there's a guy on youtube named, Thenagantman, and he does a pretty good job of showing how to safely break down your S&W revolver if you must. The revolver is a S&W model 10 service pistol.

    Trigger Locks Up

charles hit it right on the head...I didn't let the trigger go all the way forward (been shooting glocks too long) and the trigger locked 3/4 of the way back... I cocked the hammer and it released... initially, didn't know what the heck happened...but surmised it was me not letting the...

    how durable is the 686?

pardon my ignorance...and I did read the manual...where do you put the oil exactly and what do you mean do the inside of it? I'll be honest I'm a little intimidated by taking a S&W side-plate off!

    reloading for 686

I just got my new 686 revolver last weekend and was curious what bullet weight did you find the 686 liked best? I was thinking of ordering the 158 grain SWC's from mastercast for plinking...or should I go with the lighter grained bullets? anyone have a favorite load for their 686 they care to...
