    66 vs 686 for shooting: experienced shooters?

    I own or have owned 37 examples of the Model 66, 19, and 686 and 586 shooters over the years. All are exceptional! If you plan a large diet of full house .357Mag, I suggest the 686. Of course I prefer pre-lock and no MIMs, and the best out of the box 686, IMO, is the 3" CS-1 all-around...

    i find the best guns when im broke

    Have lamented the same in my decades of shooting and collecting! However, I have accepted that bologna sandwiches are my friend in time of want!

    &@@@++""##

    Yep, haven't bought ANYTHING - new or old, long or handgun from a local shop in more than a decade. I'm also stuck in Jersey so the best I can figure is that the local shops want to share the pain of gun ownership here. I actually had a local shop REFUSE to handle any transfers for me because...

    Chuck was one of the forum originals from a decade ago and quite a collector of very, very fine Smiths, and we were here together when my old username was still in effect. A really great guy and Smith enthusiast. I have two of his former revolvers. Some of the old forum salts will certainly...

    Gunbroker Auctions Can be Fraudulent

    Been in this boat myself with a fella in PA who always sells S&W stocks on GB. Wanted a pair of good condition factories of the era for my Model 15 shooter. I was totally amazed this seller had one-pair of new-old-stock! Corresponded via email and even a phone call about them, and seemed to...

    model 29-2, how old is it?

    fyimo gave great advice IMO. Though I believe he meant to say the S&W does excellent work with refinishing. I have only had one Smith refinished, and it was totally for sentimental reasons, and the factory beautifully redid it.

    How Can I Confirm My New Gun is New

    The gun will be drop-shipped from the distributor to your FFL. Extremely little on-hand-stock. Never an issue with Bud's on the few Sigs I've purchased from them.

    3" pre-lock 686+ --> Value, rarity?

    LOL! Whoops! Missed your "+" - used to seeing "P"! Definitely harder to come by! Is yours serialed beginning CDU0 like mine? CS-1 is a 6-shot.

    3" pre-lock 686+ --> Value, rarity?

    No, not so rare unless we're talking the 3" 686 CS-1 (one of my favorites), which in the last ~1 year were selling between $900-1400. Last pre-lock 686 3" I saw was in May at a shop in PA tagged at $825 with box.
