    A 625 and a question

I would be tempted to clean out the red grease as your description just sounds like its got an overkill of the stuff. Then put a very small amount of Ballistrol or another lubricant of your choosing on the moving parts.

    Mountain Gun, 45 Colt--Should I?

These Mountain Guns are not the model of S&W in .45 colt that have throat issues ( I believe those were the Model 25s in some range of years.) So, that should not be a big worry. Yes, the .45 colt is a GREAT cartridge !, ( but you apparently know that already). I have a Mtn.Gun in this caliber...

    What's this old Revolver worth?

I have no idea what its worth, but it is in pretty darn good condition for its age, IMHO. Have you seen what an old Colt SAA looks like when its called "GOOD CONDITION" ? IF this gun were mine, I'd find the best most reputable broker of this era of firearms and get an appraisal. It may have...

    How to improve revolver action

I like this ! well at least everthing except the WD40 part. Apparently it wil get gummy after awhile. I bought a used shotgun which started to not fire the second shot, the gunsmith said that the entire "works" were coated with a gummy substance..."like someone sprayed WD40 into it". I'm...

    The 8 3/8" Appreciation Thread!

I had one in 45 Colt 20 years ago. it could hit a qt. oil can at 85 yards from just a sitting position w/o a rest of any kind. But I sold it for reasons I can no longer remember. I was young & dumb at the time...

    M25-5 45 Colt

the question is really: What's it worth to you ? My experience is that I'm willing to pay maybe a little more for a gun in front of me that I really like, than the price someone on the net is saying it is "worth". Actually we're usually talking $100 Delta or less.....

45 Hand Ejector Triplelock model of 2001 ,Performance Center

Long Live the .45 Colt ! Finest pistol cartridge ever made, IMHO. Allen, on a personal note, ... are you looking to adopt ?

Value help on a Nickel 25-5, thanks

If you don't shoot that gun much, then go ahead and sell it. You may regret it later... I've sold guns that were really neat, but which I didn't use. Sometimes I regretted it but mostly not. Apparently this particular gun is highly desirable by others than just me ! I would think you could...

Value of S&W M25, 45 Colt, Mountain Gun!

I would give $750 for that Mountain Gun, no doubt about it. Its possible that someone might be willing to pay $800 - $850. New, unfired in box definitely adds a premium. The .45 Colt is a caliber which some shooters (me included) really covet ( specially those who reload). Are you selling...

    Cause for concern?

I'd be concerned ! It looks to my eye ( newbie that I am ) that the cylinder to bore gap is non-existent for at least some, if not most, of the chambers. I think that's what's causing the scrapping on the barrel. If this is a brand new gun, I'd call S&W and the dealer you bought the gun from...

are all N frames the same size ?

Thanks for link to the pic attachment. Torokan, we have the same problem! the frame size is somehow different from the gigs that the grip maker has been using successfully. My grips are from Collinsgrips which and should, in theory, fit with no issues whatsoever. I'll post some pics, but...

are all N frames the same size ?

the reason I ask is that I've just spent two days trying to get a set of quality grips ( round butt to sq. butt conversions) on my 625-9 Mountain Gun ( .45 colt). the maker of the grips ( a guy with an excellent reputation) says he's never experienced the issue with a set of his grips before...

    Model 25 45LC Too Much?

I've owned such a gun with an 8 3/8 " bbl. and it was very accurate. I believe it was pinned, so go figure. the .45 Colt is of course a great cartridge especially for reloading, as you probably know already:). I agree the price is not a "steal", but maybe a little negotiation and it will come...

Genius that I am, I now have my S&W revolver WAY over oiled... Suggestion?

Thanks, guys ! you've saved me from myself again... I'll just continue to dry fire and wipe off the oil as it seeps out.

Genius that I am, I now have my S&W revolver WAY over oiled... Suggestion?

Yes, I know I was only susposed to put just ONE DROP of oil at a few select spots, but I got stupid and now my revolver ( .45 colt Mountain Gun) is practically gushing oil. :( Do I remove the sideplate and spray something like Gun Scrubber everywhere and start over ? Or just live with it and...

1st impressions of shooting my new 45 Colt Mountain Gun

Great training tips guys, much appreciated. Can this gun be dry-fired ? It does not have the firing pin attached to the hammmer. Again, great advice and training techniques. I will have to put some time in, I can see that. I'll see if I can find some snap caps, too. Twisted racer: yes...

1st impressions of shooting my new 45 Colt Mountain Gun

Mine is a 625 -9. I shot about 50 rounds: Good accuracy: PO had it sighted for 10" low at 25 yds for some reason  I wonder if he knew it. Hogue grips: I like the feel of the material, but the grip is too narrow for my hands; I'll probably need some other grips. Goodbye $$$, easy...
