Found a 6" 25, in LColt at the local gun imporium today. Non-pin/non recess. Blued at about 97/98% Serial started with A, so I'm guessing sometime in 83 or early 84 production. Football target grips(I'm thinking that they should be speedloader cut?) No box, papers or tools. Now for the question. Priced at 650.00. I'm thinking that this is about 100 bucks high or am I just wishing it was priced lower?

I would really like one that is pinned so I am not having too much trouble talking myself out of buying this unit but I could be convinced otherwise if someone thinks this is a good/fair price.

Is this a 25-9 model? They have correct throats and are exceptionally nice shooters !

I would love to have a 4" and would gladly trade one of my pinned 4" 25-5s for one if I could find an example here in California! :)

GB , the going rate these days for a late 25-5 is around $650.

The later non pinned 25s will have tighter chamber throats and shoot better than the older pinned barrel versions.

I don't know how often you see model 25s in 45 Colt but every one on auction sites seem to be priced around $900. and up, and are not selling.

Get the 3 letter prefix and I can give you a year of manufacture.

Now, go get it for $650. out the door and enjoy it.

It only takes 2 guys to decide what one of these is worth. Nickel. 4 inch. pinned. USED> $$1100. WoW.

Good luck.

IN the NE for $650.00, nice shape and no lock, I would buy it!

I paid $650 a year ago for this NIB 1986 25-5 six-incher, and felt like the price was a little on the low side.

The correct stocks would be the speed-loader relief and, depending on the gun's actual "ship date", they may have medallion backing discs (washers) or not. My stocks are factory original and have no washers.

I just bought a 4", 25-5 (pinned) from 1980 in at least very good condition. They were asking $800.00. I got it for $750.00.

Probably too much, but they didn't have but one.

A .45 Colt will not be recessed. They only recessed Magnum calibers and rimfires. Some will be pinned.

In most S&Ws the pinned barrels are the more desirable ones. Not so much with the .45 Colt chambered M25s. The reason being is that the chamber throats were inconsistant in the early ones. and therefore accuracy suffers. The throat problem was corrected shortly before the switch to an unpinned barrel. Unless you are able to mic the throats, the only way to insure you don't get one with the throat problem is to purchase one that is not pinned.

That said I own two pinned M25-5s and they both shoot great.

I paid 650 for mine and it is not pinned probably around 98%+ with box. I think I got a great deal on it. Like others said the 25-5 is the exception to the rule that pinned is more desirable. Here is mine.

I've owned such a gun with an 8 3/8 " bbl. and it was very accurate. I believe it was pinned, so go figure. the .45 Colt is of course a great cartridge especially for reloading, as you probably know already:). I agree the price is not a "steal", but maybe a little negotiation and it will come down to a price you can't say no ? BTW, I drive across sw Wyoming between Denver and Salt Lake at least 4 times a year and there's not many folks living out there, so it may be awhile before a pinned version shows up at your local shop.... let us know what you decide.

I am in the "buy it " camp. I have two 25-5s a 6" and a 4". The 4" has large throats but with .454 cast bullets it shoots almost as well for me in double action as it does single action. I shoot .452 bullets in the 6" (it has tighter throats) and it shoots great as well. I paid $650 for the 4" and a lot more for the 6". I thought the 4" was a deal; but that was for the market around here. Since I have a first gen SSA and a Rossi '92 loading two different diameter bullets was no big deal.

Thanks for the council. Sorry about the recessed part, I knew better, just force of habit I guess. Anyway the problem is solved. Went back today, after work, for another look and it was gone. So, the price must have been decent. Thanks again.
