Installed two new followers from MidwayUSA. I took the slide off, took the floorplate off of the mags, and took the front corner off little by little. Made sure it easily went by the mag catch, and still it the slide lock. It doesnt contact the slide lock square, but has plenty of surface to hit...

Did you get a chance to check the mag release tab between the regular and vtac version? Do you see any differences side by side?

I definitely took off too much and too far back on the angle. It barely touches the tab, and not enough to trigger it. I'll have to replace the followers and try again.

Tested both magazines after filing off the corner. It solved the interference problem, but created a different problem for me. That same corner is the tab that pushes up on the slide release to lock the slide after the last round is fired. No lock back.

Is the mag release different or the design of the follower?

Me personally, I would not choose to willingly compromise the magazine catch. I would rather spend a few minutes modifying a magazine than drop a mag in a fire fight and loose.

No, the problem is in the design of the follower. The mag release works just as it was intended do. The follower just was not designed with that consideration. It should have been molded with a notch for clearance. When loaded with rounds, it pushes the follower away from the right side, so...
