I believe this to be early 50's. Serial number C228XXX. I have the 6" version with serial number C338XXX which does have the pins in the cylinder to line up with the holes in the extractor star.

Picked up this neat old 5" Pre 10 the other day with vintage Russel Uniform Company holster. Bluing is mostly there along with a touch of end shake. Bore and mechanics are beautiful, but I'm missing the two pins that line up the extractor. A search of the net only shows Numrich, but of course...

How rare is this bird? The stocks and 8 3/8" barrel got me more excited than the scope mounting stuff. Although, I did get the Millet rings and a Leupold silver 2x scope in the deal. These are the first SB S&W stocks that actually fit my hand. Wish they made more of these.
