I was referring to the market that has existed long before this recent CMP sale. The same market that actually made the pistol you just purchased cost over $1K when it would have sold for around $20.00 back in the 1970's. I understand that not everybody owns these pistols for the same reason but...

stansdds...I agree original pieces will always fetch more than arsenal rebuilds but pricing is always a matter of supply and demand and many people just want to own one whether it is all original or not. Time will tell...

OK...I'm only going to do this because it is the only time I think I can legitimately post a picture of a Colt 1911 on the S&W forum...:-) I have been collecting these long before the new CMP release and have been shooting them since my time in the Corps back in the 70's. Here is my Colt 1945...

I discovered from another enthusiast that this one was made in Oct of 1989 so it is indeed an early one....very early from what I can gather. Blue book states they began in 1990 :-) My grips don't have the dimple so they haven't been replaced...not surprising as it was still new in the box...

I love shooting my 41. I picked mine up a few years ago and didn't know that much about this model at the time. I guess you could say I "lucked" into it. Have purchased a bunch of 22's since that time and the only other one I like even close to the 41 is this space gun. You would have to shoot...

I'm not what you would call a S&W fanboy but I've been wanting one of these or one of the variants for a while now...didn't think I would find a NIB version in my own back yard. Hope it shoots as good as I have heard...:D If so...a nice piece of leather and it could become my new EDC.

I received a picture of the number on the butt and it is the same as the number on the cylinder....it appears to be a 4th change as suggested. Thank to everyone for your help and information...:-)

I have only seen a picture of the pistol so far...will see it in person this weekend. I matched it to a picture I found in the 3rd edition of the S&W Standard Catalog. They indicate that the S/N range for this edition is 62450 - 73250 so I don't think the cylinder marks are related to the serial...

A friend of mine has a .38 M&P Model of 1905 (3rd model). On the end of the cylinder there is a stamp (40 30 40). I was wondering if anybody knows what this is all about. Thank you in advance.

A little late to the party...

This is an example of S&W factory engraving. I bought the gun used and don't know which engraver at S&W did the work. These model 60's fully engraved are still available on their web site...is this what you are looking for...

Came across this in a LGS today…how rare is this and is it stock with the brass/gold bead FS? S/N is 478

I just picked this one up last week…Model 63 "Kit" gun. Based on the current value listed in the BB, I won't be throwing it around in my tackle box :-)
